Amazing how intelligent movies do not generate as much discussion as

the stupid movies.

Well, it's not that amazing. Look at the ratio of cr** to quality on TV. I don't even own a TV, but when I go to the gym where they have 100 channels available I'm lucky to find ONE quality viewing option at any given time. Pretty sad.

Americans just never got exposure to documentaries. Studios never get behind them, and they're not really given a distribution channel for the average American to see.

I wish more people would see this film. It gives great insight into the mind of the modern environmentalist. Equating human civilization to a destructive "forest fire" and claiming that if (and by default, when) there were 66% fewer people on Earth life would be (was) better.

The neo-Luddite, Malthusian attitudes and dogma of the participants in this film should send chills down the viewers spine. Paul Ehrlich should be proud that his cult-like disciples are still repeating the nonsense he printed nearly a half century ago.

sadly you are correct.

i want to discuss the generalization made about the roman republic/empire and aristocracy.

it is claimed in this documentary that the switch from 'egalitarian' republic to a 'oligarchy' eventually lead to the demise of the roman civilization which is entirely WRONG. it is the roman elite who funded the development of the roman way of life. before the age of augustus, there was little of that what we today recognize as roman. for example, major public buildings in cities across the empire were primarily funded as DONATIONS from the cities local elites. even in rome itself the same system was put in place, so that all the major roman buildings were in fact donations from the emperors to the people.

one of the reasons that roman empire collapsed is because elites could no longer endure financing major building projects they could in the past. once this happened, the cities began to stagnate and their infrastructure started deteriorating because nobody was taking care of it.
