Alice is the new vampire phenomenon.

Alice is/will be the new Twilight. It'll be the new vampire phenomenon in general... Anyone else agree?

We've already got this mini-series and then there is Tim Burton's Alice In Wonderland that's coming to theaters in 2010... I just have a feeling there will be more (maybe there are others already in works that I don't know about). Alice may become as popular as the vampire-takeover of 2009. But this is all just my thoughts. :)

I doubt, because there's only so much you can do with it, without crossing into someone else's interpretation.

And I REALLY hope that doesn't happen to it. Trust me, I'm a HUGE Twilight fan, but I'll be the first to admit that it has EXPLODED to the point that it often comes off as ridiculous (the insane fans, the stupid paparazzi that won't leave the cast alone, the near-constant media coverage...). I feel like it's become this mockery and overblown phenomenon rather SO far from the beaten-up old copy of my favorite book with the hands holding the apple on the front.

I'm quite content with "Alice" as it is now. I feel like I have this personal little thing that I love, along with a few other people (okay, a few thousand people out there ), very much like Twilight felt loooong before all the movie stuff even started. "Alice" just feels so small and personal, because it's not so ridiculously OUT THERE and overexposed, ya know?

I completely agree with you! I'm actually on the same boat as you because I used to be a really really big Twilight fan but then I realized how ridiculous, like you said, it has become.

Except, I guess I should rephrase what I originally posted. I didn't mean to say that Alice is/will be the new Twilight, per say, but just the new vampire obsession, you know? Like how there's vampires EVERYWHERE now--not just Twilight, but we've got things like True Blood and Vampire Diaries and whatnot.

People have just become completely infatuated with the whole general idea of vampires. I just feel like Alice MIGHT gradually become the same kind of infatuation, I suppose..

I hate to say it, but you make a point.

Don't forget that Phantasmagoria is being made and directed by Marylin Manson about the life of Lewis Carol. The theme for Miss Entertainer Of The Year this August was Down The Rabbit Hole.

I'd love to see Wonderland as the next big thing... I'm a huge fan of the children's story/fantasy genre :)

Hmmm... Alice in Wonderland isn't anything new. I can't imagine that people would react in such away that it become a phenomenon. But then again, if the Twilight books could do it... pretty much anything could do it...

Exactly, Chosen... If Twilight could do it, ANYTHING could (no offense to those posters who like it... I just don't get WHY... In my honest opinion they are horrible, and the hype is unwarranted)...

Though, AiW being old or new doesn't have much to do with it.... Vampires aren't new either... There's just been a sudden craze for them, because of twilight (and I really need to get one of those shirts that say "I liked vampires BEFORE Twilight" 'cause I can't mention liking anything to do with them without the inevitable "OMG! Do you like Twilight!? BEST BOOKS EVAR!")... If Burton's Alice gets enough momentum, it could very well end up like the Twilight/vampire craze.

...In which case, I'll have to get a shirt that says "I liked Alice BEFORE it was popular" =P

However, if it DOES get that crazy, no doubt all the fans who were fans before will be lumped in with the psychos. Though thankfully I don't seen any AiW fans resorting to violence, like the Twitard Crazies... Y'know, the ones who stalk people who say it sucks, and ambush them in dark alleyways...

lol. My screen name is actually a call back to Buffy the Vampire Slayer, which I am a big fan of. I am NOT a fan of Twilight in any way shape or form, as I think it is completely demeaning to women and rather annoying. Not to mention it is written by someone with a fifth grade intellect. However, I am very excited about Daybreakers.

I have always been a big fan of Alice as well, and I am even having my own Alice Tea Party wedding...a month after Tim Burton's movie comes out (believe me I didn't plan it that way). I'm okay with Tim Burton, as I love Beetlejuice and the Batman movies, but I don't think I can forgive him if he destroys Alice. I just cannot.

I used to be madly obsessed with "Buffy the Vampire Slayer!" Every now and then, I still go through phases during which I need to watch almost every single episode of the show. And I agree that I cannot stand "Twilight" for all of the same reasons you mentioned.

And I checked out your "Alice" blog. Very awesome. I particularly love the "Drink Me" necklace you mentioned.

Yay! Thanks so much! Keep checking back as I got commissioned someone to make her dress and jacket for me and I'm going to post updates on my blog, like if I ever find a good fabric for her dress... argh.

There's also an Alice movie coming out in 2010 based on American McGee's Alice (the computer game). http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0466663/

Actually thats been shelved for now. Maybe Burton's will help it get green-lit.

I would actually like to see that one way more than Burton's. Especially if Sarah Michelle Prinze gets to be Alice.

Yeah, I was just thinking that Alice in Wonderland has suddenly become really popular. There's this Alice (which is one of my all-time favorites movies), Burton's upcoming movie, the upcoming American McGee's Alice, and the books The Looking Glass Wars are being made into movies. I don't know if it will be as popular as vampires are now, but it's certainly enjoying a burst of popularity. Personally, I kind of hope it doesn't get that vampire hype. I never cared for vampires, and don't really see why everyone loves them so much. I dislike Twilight and I absolutely loathe Buffy the Vampire Slayer (I'm probably the only person in the world who considers that show complete and utter garbage), and if Sarah Michelle Gellar ever played Alice in any adaptation, I would cry. She's one of the worst actresses I have ever had the misfortune to come across. But anyway. AiW is certainly having a sudden "comeback" (though obviously it's always been popular).

Alice in Wonderland has ALWAYS be unexplainably popular amongst teenagers.

Even I like it without really knowing WHY I like it.

It's all one big drug trip for teens.

I know what you mean, I read the books and later I was like "why'd I start reading this?"

I've been waiting for someone to follow up my quote. You sir (more than likely ma'am, but I like addressing folks as "sir") just won yourself --- A Zefron Poster. Yeah, that sounds like a good prize...in fact lets say you won 12 Zefron posters since I have no intention of paying up.

I've been thinking that lately the phenomenon has been less about vampires and is becoming more about fantasy and scifi children and young adult books turned into films. Lately there have been a ton and though some of them are vampire related others aren't. Anyway, I love vampires - Buffy, Angel, Moonlight, Twilight, but I am definitely getting sick of them, so here's hoping that the whole craze dies down a bit. I do love fantasy and science fiction though, so bring those on.

For real? I thought they had something like that 10 years ago. American McGee's Alice PC game and a few figurines and comic derived from the game came out in 2000. So this is something of a revival you think?

There have been at least a few versions of the Alice stories every decade, mostly feature films although a few other things, too, even before Disney's 1951 version. The Alice stories are some of my favorites, and the 1951 film is pretty close to the top of my list of all-time favorite films. I'm also not at all against "remakes", especially when things are changed in new versions, so I collect Alice DVDs. Most I've liked at least as much as a 7/10. This one I gave a 9/10, almost a 10, and I could see it possibly getting a 10 from me on a rewatch.

I'm sure I'm still missing some, but just from the 80s, I have five different versions on DVD. There were not quite as many in any decade after that to my knowledge, but there has been a regular stream of Alice in Wonderland films for well over 60 years now . . . which is all just to say that I'm sure there will be others in this decade, and it's not just because of the new Disney film, although that won't hurt.

Wonderland isn't filled with biker vampires with less expression than Keanu Reeves. Anyway, I'm sick of vampires and it's perfectly obvious Lewis Carroll took an English/Creative Writing class.

I hate Twilight, I will be honest. I'll go for anything to replace it. I am all for a Alice craze.
