That sucked

Why didnt the police delay the train by 5 minutes before it got to the bridge, and what happened is not a paradox :(

reply

Maybe it's called Paradox because if they managed to prevent the disaster, the images of death and destruction would never exist, therefore they couldn't be sent back in time. THAT is a Paradox.

I wouldn't go as far as saying it sucked, but I felt it could have been better. Some of the dialogue was quite silly, especially the scientist's lines, and the policewoman's insistance it was just a safety review...er yeah. Just tell the guy to push the emergency stop button on the train for pity's sake!

I'm more puzzled by the nature of the images...how would anyone have connected the coffee cup to the accident given that it was thrown from the cab window some miles away...if someone wanted to warn them about the impending disaster, why send a series of cryptic, uninformative images instead of a few lines of pertinent information.

Hopefully all will be revealed, I will keep watching as there are few other shows like this, and even a slightly flawed attempt at something original is better than endless rehashes of the same ideas.

I agree, I just started a thread about it not being a paradox. Cupboardie is right that if they had stopped it, it would have been a paradox, but they didn't, all that happened was they saw the future. It should be called... "Seeing the Future a bit in a few dodgy photos."

reply

Welllll.. If you watched the previews for the next episode it seems that they are suggesting that police officer shouldn't be saved. My guess is that the scientist will tell them about the dangers of changing the future and causing a paradox, thus the name of the show.

Plus "Paradox" sounds way cooler than "Seeing the Future a bit in a few dodgy photos." LOL

The problem is if this show keep doing this "Seeing the Future a bit in a few dodgy photos" and they couldn't do anything about it, the show won't last very long since either viewers or the detectives themselves got bored.

They'll just go "yeah it's gonna happen and I can't change it. So why do I care?"

reply

I wondered how long it would take before someone posted the word "suck" on a new discussion thread.

It must be mandatory.

I imagine that the show isn't meant to be a paradox of the week show, also how were the police to explain delaying the train?

"Excuse me Mr/Ms Railtrack but we have reason to believe an explosion will take place at this place and point in time. Our informant is a strange scientist who receives photographs from the future"

reply

Yes you're completely right. What was I thinking. It's absolutely impossible for the police to delay a train and possibly claim that they needed to speak to a certain commuter or that they've had a tip off of a "device" on that train or the track.

reply

It is actually a lot more difficult than it sounds (once a train is in motion).

The obvious thing to do would be to have got the guy to pull the communication cord long before he got to the bridge and then given him the money to pay the fine but that wouldn't have proved anything.

The police seem to be brought in to prove both the accuracy of the information and the possibility of preventing these events from happening.

reply

And here was T thinking the best way to set the series up would be to not quite prevent the explosion from happening. Then it might set a goal of preventing an event. That might cause the paradox in the title...../but you're all right, it sucked.

reply

Setting up motivation for the second episode - which definitely was a paradox.

The photo of the boy isn't necessarily as he was in that position until she revived him - but the "eight photo" is definitely a paradox :)
