Crouching Tiger Hidden Dragon
House of Flying Daggers
Musa
IP Man
Fearless
Red Cliff (may take a few sittings to finish, its like 5 hours long, but never manages to lose your attention.)
Hero

I could put Ran, The Banquet, and Curse of The Golden Flower if you like Shakespeare plots, while the pace of the movie is slower, they are still great movies.

You can't go wrong with the above choices.

if you love kongfu movie like this one, i'll suggest you
Crouching Tiger Hidden Dragon(by Ang Lee, most similar to this)
and
Dragon Inn (1992), (1967);i'm not sure you can find the old one;
Swordsman(1990)
Once Upon a Time in China(1991)
Wing Chun(1994)
are all traditional kongfu movies
1990s is the golden age of chinese traditional kongfu movies.
stories are all about swordsman and love.
trust me. hope you will love these.

Gotta agree with Joe's list. Dragon Inn 1992 is one of the friggin best movies ever. The only thing I'd add is that Swordsman 2 is better than Swordsman imo. All of those movies have a great mix of awesome kung fu, drama and humor. I thought Reign of Assassins did a good job with mixing up the drama and the humor and action without ever overdoing it. Very solid movie and much better than the name would imply.

Yup. It seems like you re very familiar with chinese ancient kongfu movies. haha I love them too. ther re awesome and are touch the peakedness of chinese kongfu movies. 1990S is the golden age.

Swordsmen 2 is indeed far better than 1. Part 1 is a mess.

I would like to add:

Moonwarriors [Sammo Hung, 1993]

Twin Warriors [Yuen Woo-Ping, 1993] (a.k.a. Tai Chi Warrior, I think)

Burning Paradise [Ringo Lam, 1994]

Come Drink With Me [King Hu, 1966] (one of the first wuxia movies if I remember correctly - it's slower and less spectacular than more recent films but beautiful nonetheless)

House Of Flying Daggers [Zhang Yimou, 2005]

Ashes Of Time [Wong Kar Wai, 1994] (more of an arthouse wuxia movie but really good)

True Legend [Yuen Woo-ping, 2010]

Seven Swords [Tsui Hark, 2005]

Oh, and '92 Dragon Gate is also called New Dragon Gate Inn, might help with tracking it down. Definitely worth it.
Korean flick "Divine Weapon" is also an interesting one by the way. And kudo's to the one who suggested Musa. That movie is incredible.

I like all of the above, but my personal favorites are:
Twin Warriors (Jet Li + Michelle Yeoh = win!)
Wing Chun (Michelle Yeoh again, I love her)
Crouching Tiger Hidden Dragon (Yeoh again, but also Chow Yun Fat being awesome)
Hero (Jet Li vs. Maggie Cheung vs. Tony Leung vs. Donnie Yen vs. Zhang Ziyi, a fanboy's wetdream)
Iron Monkey (Donnie Yen)
Musa

And before I forget:
Butterfly & Sword [1993] (not as good as the rest, but it has Michelle Yeoh, Tony Leung ánd Donnie Yen in it!)

Enjoy.

Excellent list, you've given me quite a few movies to check out.

I think most people have covered the most important movies which are similar to this.

For the record, this genre of cinema is called wuxia (Chinese for martial hero); and its tone is often characterised by its fantasy level of martial arts, much of which takes place in ancient/old China rather than modern China. That might help you in tracking down more film and tv similar to this.

Seen every single movie mentioned on this thread - and yes I too would recommend the 90s classics. Crouching tiger hidden dragon is so overrated in the west it amazes me. There are so many other asian martial art movies with a hint of love story that are thousand times better than CTHD.

Nonetheless, this movie reminds me of the japanese movie called Shinobido. Although I do prefer the fighting scenes in Jian Yu over those in Shinobido. The storyline is different but the lovestory is somewhat similar.
