I'll say this for Ah Sheng... (spoilers)

I'm watching this film again and I must say the guy has the constitution of an ox.

In the beginning:
-Fight with 3 assassins, slashed with flaming swords, stabbed in the back by Lei Bin (who presumably knows what he's doing) and left for dead;
-Gets up and finds his way to the bridge, stabbed in the front by Drizzle (who most assuredly knows what she's doing), left for dead;
-Drifts down a muddy river, staggers into Dr. Li's boat (although admittedly, he's leaning on someone's shoulder), goes in for 3 months of head & face surgery.

After he recovers:
-Takes a job as a foot messenger, running around the capital city for pay*;
-Bank robbery: immobilized by nerve strike, gets to his feet anyway;
-Duel with Drizzle in the cemetery: stabbed in the chest AGAIN, then (thanks to some tortoise powder) lies out in the open for a whole night, then gets up the next morning, picks his wife up in his arms and carries her home without so much as a groan.

Revenge can do that, I guess in wuxia films humans can take more punishment.

How did Ah-sheng survive being killed 3 times?
Ah-sheng has a condition called Dextrocardia where his heart is on the right, not the left. In each scene he died, he was stabbed through the left where a normal person's heart should be.

This was explained by the doctor in the film.
