One of the best things on telly in ages

Anyon else think so?

reply

absolutely! i am 26 so have no first hand experience of such things but was riveted throughout. I am so fortunate to have caught this programme, i really hope it is given an airing on bbc1 so more people can discover this fantastic gem. I really didnt want it to end.

I have seen similar films - (Breast Men, The Jerk, The First $20 Million Is The Hardest, Pirates Of Silicon Valley) that chart the rise and fall of entrepeneurs/businesses and now with Micro Men I am keen to watch more, any suggestions?

Perhaps you could add Startup.com to that list? It's a documentary about a not so big company that certainly fits the "rise and fall" dramatic.

Had me gripped from start to finish and I was nursing one of the nastiest hangovers of my life. Superb stuff...

A Really great drama. I thought it was going to be more about the games industry rather than the actual machines, but I was not disapointed.

I downloaded this from a torrent but would be happy to buy a DVD should the Beeb ever release one.

Agreed. I'd love an extended DVD of this.

Yes, definitely - as someone who was a child during that era (I'm 33) and owned several of the machines featured in the film, this was an excellent reflection on British history and innovation. Also very informative and revealing about Curry and Sinclair's drives and philosophies. It shows you the decisions that led to both their downfalls.

I'd always perceived them as strait-laced individuals from the PR clips shown on TV but this shows another unseen side of their lives. Good combination of humour, drama and sadness. Curry's remark towards the end about Sinclair's short sightedness is really symbolic when you consider that the consoles and computers on sale today in high street stores are either American or Far Eastern.

As with one of the earlier posters, I too got this off a torrent because the BBC in their infinite wisdom removed it from iPlayer after 7 days and I would certainly buy a DVD release: imagine the potential if done properly - a commentary by cast and crew, special features, contributions by the people of Sinclair Research and Acorn Computers... Here's hoping.
