Yes, unforeseen dramatic incidents create higher ratings and more buzz for tv shows and movies, but some situations are just too much, even for greedy studio heads. It would've been disrespectful to the family of the victim, especially considering the extremely brutal nature of this specific murder. Also, comparing it to a movie, it kind of depends on the situation of the movie it would've been, in many cases, if it were a murder like this, yes, they still would've in fact canceled the release, maybe would just release it to DVD right away or not at all, or it could still get released as planned, or put off for a couple of years, just depends on a lot of stuff. You can't really compare some silly vh1 show to a major big budget multi-million dollar film though. It's a lot easier and more understandable to discontinue a reality series than some huge movie, the hit the movie studios, producers, financiers, investors etc, would be a lot more devastating than a vh1 reality television series.
