My problems with this series...

The costume and production designs are unmatched in my opinion to any other late night series and the actors and actresses are some of the most attractive I've seen in these types of shows. The stories and characters are involving and interesting as well.

But, the actual sex scenes are very mediocre.

First, it feels as if the actors and film makers are either embarassed by having to do these type of scenes or just don't want to do them period; The scenes themselves feel considerably shorter than ones in past series, but, not as short as the time given to the actual sexual positions. There have been times when a doggystyle, missionary, etc. position was executed for literally five or ten seconds. As if the actors were rushing through the scene descriptions in the script just so they could get it over with. The positions chosen for some scenes looked awkward and rushed as well; the bodies of the actors would not be aligned so as to give a realistic impression as if they were actually penetrating each other, or when a character was depicted as supposedly going down on another character the positon and movements of their heads would not look as if they were in the right spots, it looked as if the actors were instructed to merely kneel and put their head somewhere near the other actor's crotch.

Another problem I personally had with these scenes is the lack of moaning from the female actors performing in them. Sometimes it sounded as if the actress suddenly remembered that she should be conveying pleasure and made a hurried sound more than a moan, or, she knew she was supposed to be making sounds but merely just made the same repeated, obviously fake moan over and over without any change according to what was happening in the scene. The lack of conviction between the actors performing in the scene was also a problem; the actors would seem to be joking around more than taking the scene seriously. Even in a scene that was meant to be funny the actors still didn't take the actual sex being performed in the scene seriously. They would quickly move through positions, laughing and making jokes, instead of bringing any type of realism to the sex.

Which is probably the biggest problem overall for me for this series; the lack of realism involved in the sex scenes.

Again, the production, scripts, and actors all look and feel professionally done, as if they were given the upmost time and consideration. But, the actual sex scenes do not. They feel rushed, as if they were a requirement. Something the film makers were required to include but were dreading shooting. As if they waited until the last possible minute of the shooting day and hurriedly got it over with, joking around, trying to make it tolerable.

This is surprising considering Mr. Quinn, the creator of this series, produced PASSION COVE and, specifically, VOYEUR CONFESSIONS.

PASSION COVE did not have the most realistic story lines, characters, or sex scenes. But, the sex in the shows between the actors, feels as if it were taken more seriously, with the goal of actually trying to turn on the viewer not just be funny and get the sex part over with.

VOYEUR CONFESSIONS, along with director/writer Tom Lazarus' other movies, has some of the most realistic and hottest sex scenes in all of softcore films. The scenes themselves are taken seriously and the actors seem to be trying to give the most realistic performance possible. Not at all embarassed by what they're doing or rushing through but actually legthening it out to make it more sexy and engaging for the audience.

For his next projects, whether they're further seasons of his cinemax series or other movies, I'd like to suggest Mr. Quinn use Tom Lazarus' work as an example, and maybe even get him to actually direct. I'd also like to suggest the sex scenes in ZANES SEX CHRONICLES, particularly from the second season involving the character "Trinity", as a template for how realistic the sex should be depicted and how engaged the actors themselves should be within the scene.

I know this all might seem a bit too much for a late night cable series, but, I think its important to have this type of erotica available to people; porn has become almost entirely void of sexiness and story and characters. With the exception of the occasional mainstream movie that has an erotic storyline, softcore programing such as what Mr. Quinn creates and produces is the only place to find truly erotic stories and scenes in entertainment. I really don't want to lose that.

I've only seen two episodes but I think the sex scenes are nice. Both people are usually attractive and it's nice (to me) that there is not an over abundance of moans. That seems fake. It's also nice that they kind of build up to the sex and that the main couples know each other before they go at it. My viewing in this area is limited because I'm kind of a prude but maybe the creator kept that in mind to attract more people to watch the show.

I don't get that they are "embarrassed" and the moaning doesn't really concern me one way or the other -- how often is that shown on soft porn or if shown done in a successful manner? As to not being realistic, yeah, but that's typical. No one sweats on these shows. Life on Top was almost shocking in referencing to condoms or a shower (at least the first episode). Usually, they have sex and go on with their business. Amazing stuff. I think the sex scenes are decent. Mixed but decent. As the reply noted, there is a connection between the characters in general and that adds to the realism and flavor. As a whole, to the degree you want more, it's a problem with the norm, not the series specifically.
