Misty Mundae, R.I.P.
One of the oddest careera in modern film history has to be that of one Erin Brown AKA Misty Mundae. Beginning in 1998 she had a meteoric (publicity wise) success marketed and exploited as an underage-looking soft porn star, also dabbling in hardcore porn at the borderline, in dozens of New Jersey made lesbian and fantasy videos of the no-budget variety. Now in her thirties, with that freshness and bloom of youth long gone, she moves from 3rd rate horror as the second phase of her career to a regular gig on this cable series, where she is probably the least attractive, and certainly least appreciated, cast member.
Yes, Hollywood, in its entire continuum encompassing both mainstream & porn, is voracious in eating up and literally consuming talent. Misty or Erin is just another victim, and quantitatively I advise anyone interested in the downside of the Dream Factory to just check (as I'm currently doing) the failure rate on the recent darling ghetto of the industry: the "indie" productions. My in-progress study indicates that from the mid-1990s to date 95% of the indie films (and borderline videos) made never get a theatrical distribution, and a large percentage (to be determined) never get any release at all, including all forms of video & tv. I was shocked to discover that over one-third of the English-language indies made in 2000 were directed by first-time directors who have never got a second chance to make a movie (or feature-length video) in the 10 years that followed! They don't tell you about that when promoting the Sundance Film Festival or the Independent Film Channel -everything is rosy!
