I just don't get it. (spoilers)
I simply don't understand what the point was. I actually liked the first maybe 30-40 minutes. It was long and drawn out, yes, but for me it did bring on suspense. Now... once the Greek fishermen or poachers showed up, that's when things started to get really perplexing.
The ghost is a ghost for the simple reason that she was raped and then died from stepping on the stonefish. Ok, fair enough, I can buy that as a reason for a ghost I suppose. But when Beth said, I'd probably do the same thing where Harry responded... you'd kill innocent people? She freaked out on him to prove a point. That point was completely lost on me. Because one awful thing happens that means it's justified to seek more awful things? His reaction was completely on point, saying, no ghosts don't exist. but her's is in such a place of anger and hate right off the bat. Where was this emotion the rest of the movie? She loved Harry, or at least certainly looked to love him. He didn't rape her or anyone else that we're aware of. But aside from passing out at his death and then waking to find him gone again... she didn't care. What the heck is that?
Then when she steps on the stonefish and now is poisoned and then apparently turns into her own ghost... WHAT!? why? she wasn't raped. she wasn't basically murdered (or left to die). The whole reason for Coral makes sense in a kind of... ok, i guess we'll have to go with it... kind of way but Beth's transformation into a ghost who presumably kills the skipper at the end is totally ridiculous. Why? she hasn't got any motivation like Coral did.
With that said... Corals whole experience and vengeance was really kind of tough to swallow at times. Ok, she was raped 100 years ago by some sailors who were animals. That's awful... Now, after 100 years and here comes Harry. A Jcrew model who does nothing but want to show Beth a romantic time on the island. (now this of course brings up the question as to, why are people going back to this island at all if men are being murdered all the time, regardless, HARRY DIDN"T DO ANYTHING. he didn't do anything to Beth. He tried to protect her from danger. He put them on the island which seems like it's exactly what she wanted. He didn't burn down the cabin (like I would have) he didn't kick over the grave (like I wanted to towards the end) ... the guy was a peach the whole time then gets gutted like a fish by a ghost that apparently simply hates men from an incident that happened a century ago.
The more I thought of this movie, the more it upset me with the BS the story ended up being.
