The music used in the first part (08/07/2010)

I've googled to oblivion and unfortunately it's led me nowhere, so I was wondering if anyone was brilliant enough to name the piano piece that was used at the start (and throughout, on a number of occasions).

I'm not so interested in the strings/violin pieces...they got rather annoying by the end, but someone I know wants to know what they are also.

Thanks in advance! :)

Trying to find the violin music and I found this:

it gives the name of the composer. I'm checking out Amazon now to see if I can find the violin section!

It's Max Richter and the album is called The Blue Notebooks. Just found it on Amazon and there are sections available on Youtube.x

I've heard it somewhere before but can't place it.

Thanks for the Max Richter update. I was looking for this beautiful music myself and I'm so glad I came across this topic. I had a look at the album on itunes and I think it's the piece entitled "On the Nature of Daylight". Is this correct?

reply

Both pieces are by Max Richter. The piano piece is 'Vladimir's Blues', the string piece is 'On The Nature of Daylight'.

reply

It was used, to better effect, throughout brit film Heartless by Phillip Ridley too.

I juuust had the pleasure of watching this and a immediately recognized the song from the movie 'Disconnect'. I had fallen in love with 'On The Nature of Daylight' then and I am still in love with this piece of music. It is beautiful and makes you feel so much.

You'll have heard a mash-up of Max Richter's "On The Nature Of Daylight" with a vocal overdub from Dinah Washington's "This Bitter Earth" at the end of feature film "Shutter Island" by Martin Scorsese.

Beautiful evolving chords. Dinah's original is actually completely different, hear:

The music in Dive reminded me of the music from Mean Creek (2004). Depressing in a way too. Thanks for this!
