Thanks very much for the heads-up, and don't worry about the lack of spoilers. It sounds like a great film, and I plan to seek it out. I'm not sure if I'll be able to identify with much of it, but hopefully I'll learn something in the process. Thanks again!

Just seen it today as part of a film festival
Was not looking forward to it - just there to accompany a relative.
Found it quite moving and really well done - acting, direction and editing.
Really poignant film, interesting, tough and sweet all at the same time.
Surprisingly good movie, with a remarkable main performance
Well worth seeing.

My wife and I saw Anita last night. What a good film. We have an 8 year old daughter with Down Syndrome. Based on our experience with her, I can say that the actress that played Anita was completely believable (maybe credit should go to the writer too?). I could see my daughter reacting the same way in similar situations, and we can only pray that she NEVER gets in that situation. It was very touching, disturbing, funny, and warming all mixed-together. Well done.

I have a couple of questions that I'm hoping someone might be able to answer:

1. Is this based on a true story?
2. There was a quotation in Spanish at the end, which was not translated in our viewing. Could someone please post that quote in English here?

Thanks

If you haven't, Go See This Movie!

(I saw the "Taiwan edition")
1. At the end of the movie, it states that although based on historical event (explosion in Buenos Aires,) all characters are fictional.
2. I don't have the exact quote, but paraphrasing from what I can remember, it goes like: "I would like to ask God, why are there so many injustice and suffering in the world, while He could have done something about it; but I think God will ask the same of me."
Hope this helps, cheers.

"To quote eminent celebrities is homage; to quote lesser personalities is plagiarism."

Thanks very much for your comments. I'm hoping to track this down. It played at a film festival near me, but I missed it. Hopefully I'll find it at the library, which carries a lot of indie films like this.

I saw this movie a few days ago (2011 May 8) and think it is the best movie I have seen in four years. I would like to tell you details from the film, but although they are not very unexpected, you will have more profit from seeing everything with fresh eyes.

The movie was released in 2009. I have searched internet for a DVD of this movie, because I like it so much. But I did not find it. Could it have been sold out? Or what could be the reason?

Thanks for your thoughts. I'm still hoping to catch it on DVD ... if and when it's released. I suspect it's waiting for a distributor. A lot of films released two or three years ago in their native countries (in this case, Argentina) are only finding their way to other shores now. Hopefully a distributor will pick this up and give it the release it deserves.

To avoid confusion, this is definitely not the "Anita" about a teenage nymphomanic, which comes up in an Internet search.

Today I have learned that "Anita" is indeed available as DVD from yesasia.com, though, as far as I know, only for region 3. But by now a lot of movie lovers have region-free equipment.

I do think that I am responsible for the sudden change. Well, first I wrote a plot summary myself. Then the latter was substituted with a more professional one. At the same time a large picture was included in the title page, which had the same character as a DVD frontpage would have. And there are now also a trailor.
And, as I already said, I know that a DVD exists.

All of you, you will not be disappointed if you buy this great movie.

Regards. Max

Thanks for the reply. I'm glad to hear a DVD is out, but at the moment I don't have an all-region player.

Sorry, I have bad news. What I have bought is the Taiwan edition. It differs in quite a few respects from the version shown at the Jewish film festival. It is not a negative difference that the mother has a larger part now. Among other things I cannot have seen Anita being woken up in the morning, nor that the mother was sitting at the edge of the bath tub.
- - No, what is worse happens during Anita's odyssey. I wrote in my plot summary that all people she meet, and who cannot avoid becoming involved, think of how to get rid of her, but also to take genuine responsibility for her meanwhile. This is not true of the Taiwan edition. In particular the photographer has a very much larger part, and he almost continually shows negative sides. He is indeed an alcoholic addict. And he get rids of Anita by both going on a bus - and then in the last second before the doors are closed he jumps off. - As I remember things, in the bathing scene the photographer tries to concentrate on a journal. In the Taiwan edition he is smoking, and the cigaret looks strange, and is also in the center of the picture. Well, I am a virgin as regards illegal narcotics, but it seems to me that the director wants the audience to be sure what kind of a cigaret this is.
- - The mother of the Chinese family (though not the grandmother) are much more aggressive. And in the beginning the nurse is so too, although she eventually accepts Anita as if she were her adopted child. - In both versions, when the brother has found Anita, the nurse asks to come and visit her now and then.
- - Strictly speaking, the Taiwan version is more realistic. But I do not mind to see a somewhat more romantic movie. Anita has sufficient problems in advance.
- - Those who have seen the movie, please try to tell which version you saw. From my comments now it must be easy to recognise if it was the Taiwan edition.
- - I shall indeed make some attempts to find out if there is another version, or if someone is planning to release the "Jewish" version.

I found this DVD at my local library.
I'm watching it now ... it's sad ...
I just want to know if it's based on a true story or not.
