Great film.

Interesting concept, as is typically the case with Cronenberg. Coupled with solid acting performances.

It's a pleasure to see Cronenberg directing again in 2022.

It gets bonus points for Lea Seydouxs nude scene, plus the nude scene of those other two ladies. I've made it a point to grant bonus points to films that contain good Female nudity. You have to support the content you want to see.

Definitely an interesting idea. A major advancement in the development of life occurred when a cell variant “figured out” how to source the previous generations’ waste product, oxygen, as fuel. CotF poses the question, could another major advancement occur if a new life variant “figured out” how to use the previous generations’ waste product, plastic, as a fuel?

sounds complicated.

it's not when they just make everything about sex in the end

Well that does help in explaining at least one aspect of this oddity of a movie, for sure.

Indeed, and the questions that the movie flirts with, in light of that idea, e.g. how would we respond to that? In the movie, the powers that be are looking directly to curtail that advancement, that growth, because it's too different to the point of being defined as non-human. It's a crime against humanity that this boy was able to evolve as to these consume waste product, and it couldn't be allowed.

Very nice observations, cheers!

Could've done without the extended child's weenie shots though. CGI or mannequin or not. Totally unnecessary.

reply

i'm pretty sure those "weenie shots" were actually composed of mostly the entire dead body or other action happening in the foreground of the shot,
but if your eyes and mind gravitated towards the genitals then i could see how you'd be a little obsessed

that's good,
keep the weenie shots out of your mind, it's not healthy to obsess over weenie shots
