Undertones

When I watched this again a few months ago it seemed to me to have some "rebirth" undertones.

After being stranded in space after the shuttle has been destroyed Sandra Bullock's character talks about her daughter who died after falling and hitting her head at school. To me this sounded as though she hadn't fully recovered from her daughter's death. After reaching one of the space stations she takes off her spacesuit she assumes the fetal position before falling sleep and after landing then reaching land, she crawls and starts walking.

Am I reading too much into it or does anyone else think the same?
