CGI looks outdated already

When I saw this at the movies, I thought it looked great. However, I have just watched it again now and the CGI looks very fake and dated (kinda like how Avatar and King Kong look now).

It's scary how fast technology and CGI have come in the last two years.

It looks a bit sweaty in there so you may need to apply baby powder Zapp Brannigan

Can you be more specific? What shots or parts are now so obviously CGI that it detracts from the experience?

reply

Everything.

That's a little too specific.

I know what you mean. I watched King Kong with my son a few months ago... he wasn't too impressed that it was in black and white.
It never occurred to me to judge its quality solely on the special effects. Kids, hey?

King Kong 2005.

King Kong 2005.
Yes; my mistake.
In that case, it still never occurred to me to judge its quality solely on the special effects. Kids, hey?

reply

I'm not judging the film's quality on its special effects - I'm just saying the effects are dated. The film is still great in spite of that fact.

I think it depends a lot on what you are watching it on. Good music can sound bad if you don't have a proper sound system.

I think King Kong looked dated in 2005. I disliked the CGI in that movie the first time I saw it.

Avatar, that still is the best CGI ever put on screen, so not only doesn't it look dated, we still haven't seen anything better and it's been 6 years.

If I'm not replying to you, most probably you are on ignore.

reply

It's been two years it does not look dated I still think king kong 2005 looks really good I love that movie

reply

Could it be because the first time you watched it, you were more interested in following the story, rather than just forensically analysing the cgi?

reply

Just wrong. Looked amazing, looks amazing, will look amazing in decade or two :)

This movie is the complete package. CGI, Actors, Sound, Music and excitement.

King Kong still holds up today; not for some of the other creatures. And Avatar still looks good(you do realize some shots are completely CG?... foreground/background/plants;sky; same goes for Gravity... some shots the only 'real' thing are their faces). the best CG is the one you don't see and yet people still complain

reply

I realized that most of the film is CGI when I watched the Bluray specials.
That came as a complete surprise to me.

Really amazing work.

Yeah.
