Another Scientific Question

There were a few times where Stone referred directionally to something using the clock method (i.e. 9 o'clock, 7 o'clock). How would that help anyone else? I mean, wouldn't everyone have to have the same 3-dimensional frame of reference in order for their 9 o'clocks to match up? I guess we could conceivably say she looked at Kowalski & is really telling him the debris is coming from *his* 9 o'clock. But when she was communicating with both of the other astronauts out there, I think it would be virtually impossible for them to be in the same three-dimensional positions at the same time. Am I missing something?

Yeah you'd have to be able to see the person to know where their 9 o'clock is, and I suppose there'd have to be a lot of "9 o'clock high" stuff as well.

Or, and I have no idea if they actually use the terminology anyway but I may be inclined to get everyone use the shuttle as the centre of the clock just to keep things simple and be able to relay info to people you can't see.

"Debris incoming at 10 o'clock low!", that sort of thing. Unless it's specific to the individual; "I lost my torque wrench, can you see it?", observer: "Yes, it's at your 5 o'clock"

I'd be interested to know how they do actually relate directional information.

...then whoa, differences...
