It's nice fictional story, but you can see through the atheistic world view of Ken Follett, that ruins the historical accuracy. If you want to see nice theatrical fantasy movie with medieval setting, then this is fine, but you won't see any accurate history, because several flaws in the basics.

Actually the fact that he is not Christian is an advantage. He wrote the novel (it is fiction) with a detached point of view.
I myself am also no longer a Christian.
I read the book when it was first published. He is a great writer. I enjoyed this series also but I liked the book better.
