As good as Game of Thrones?

Not even close. How this gets an 8.1 rating is beyond me.

While I like "Game of Trones",I find this show to be equally good -definitely worth wattching.

That was one of my favorite lines of the whole series!!!

Gibbs=Worst. Hair. EVER.

I love him, though! It breaks my heart every time he mentions Kelly and Shannon! I'm never one to suggest ridiculous plot lines just to correct a mistake, but I've considered asking CBS to "find" his girls in a witness protection program! Think about it--one season they busted a petty officer for murdering a colleague. Turns out? He's a fake, having been supplied hi-tech prosthetics from the crazy dude that makes the masks!

I'm praying for Ziva to come back. If she doesn't, I'm outta there...that 12-yr old is no Ziva!!

(Sorry I was OT--but I had to comment about your signature line!

i personally enjoy game of thrones more but i think this show is very good.

reply

ABSOLUTELY NOT.

Game of Thrones has shades of gray. It's characters are flawed, multi-faceted and very interesting to watch.

This thing? It's a bunch of 21st century characters with a quasi-historical backdrop. The heroes are squeaky-clean good-twoshoes without a single flaw, the villains are evil in every way without any redeeming qualities.

Maybe you will enjoy this if you are a teenager, but I found it awful, boring, simplistic and above all a waste of Ian McShane's talents. Haven't read the novel, don't think I will bother. This reminds me a lot of Disney's Robin Hood in many ways.

'The heroes are squeaky-clean good-twoshoes without a single flaw, the villains are evil in every way without any redeeming qualities. '

That's not the truth from my POV- all of the characters had good and bad side, which we saw during the show. Yes,they are not fully explore because of the only 8 episodes of the show, but they exist.

Slight spoiler for the show....

Philip wanted to be a good prior, but he suffered because of his pride- he was responsible for the death a lot of people.

Waleran Bigod wanted redeem for his actions by constantly hurting himself, but he never could reach it, because he sees the Chirch as a tool for his own advancement.

Ellen, althought she is what we would call a " modern woman",if I can say it that way, and she wanted only to be happy with the man she loved and her son, she violated a few taboo, which could ot be taken lightly even in 21st century.

Most of the characters on the show were not one dimensional.

that people think shows that actually have noble characters are simplistic is very sad. i don't care how cynical someone is, there are good and bad people in the world.

as for being as good as game of thrones? in terms of quality, i think so. but honestly, they are so different its not even worth comparing.

reply

the statement "there are good and bad people in the world" is literal nonsense.

reply

Oh please what a *beep* stupid thing to say.

reply

It's hardly the fact that they are noble the poster is objecting to, it's that they are one dimensional. IMHO no human is just good or just bad. We are complicated beings that have flaws.

reply

Game of Thrones is highly regarded by it's fans, the series is pretty much the same.

As far as actual writing goes, it's not that great. I've seen worse, but its just not that great.

Some complain about HBO's tendency to throw excessive nudity and swearing into a show to help justify the cable subscriptions, but the book is pretty much the same. Comes across as cheap titillation for fantasy fans.

Not that there arn't great parts of the book/series.

Know I dont think so, I have only recently startingwatching Game of Thrones, it just finished here on New Zealand TV....although I feel comparsions will be made between the two, but i will stick with the show and draw my own conclusions, pespnally I dont thing the acting is that great in Pillars compared to GOTs, but they have got quite a few A listers in there which you think would help? but I suppose it comes down to the script and dialogue and how it is interperted by the actors themselves.

reply

Game of Thrones is orders of magnitude better than Pillars, imo. If GoT is a 9, Pillars is a 5.

reply

Different kinds of shows, kind of pointless comparing them.

reply

Amen! They are two completely different series. Love them both but just because they all wear Medieval costumes doesn't make them competitive.

reply

You cannot compare "The Pillars of the Earth" to "Game of Thrones", simply because TPotE is set in the real historical world but a fictional England; while GoT is pure fantasy set in an alternate world altogether!
