No Ending?

OK, I just watched this movie, and as it ended I felt cheated. There wasn't any real ending, there wasn't any explanation as to what was happening or even why it was happening. I'm left with the same feeling that I would have had if I had just turned the movie off about half way through, very unsatisfied. I'm wondering if this was even a complete movie or if this is part one in a two parter.

Don't get me wrong, I generally liked the movie right up to the end. But with no ending and no explanation of what was going on, I'm finding it hard to recommend that anyone else even sit through the whole thing. IMO this movie is very incomplete and deserves an ending that it was denied.

You are right. The ending --- or lack of, actually --- made the entire movie pointless.

I don't know how you could possibly explain such events in a way that wouldn't seem absurd. I think it works better left to the imagination.

maybe it needs a prequel to explain why it happened in the first place, why that day and not sooner or later, why more people didn`t survive to begin with, surely someone other than those kids made it at the end, some people on here think things are best left to the imagination, then why watch this film to begin with just imagine it, if something like this is to be enjoyed some questions must be answered.

she always did enjoy a good squeeze.

I think.of the ending like that old twilight zone ep the one how the sun didn't rise and it kept it getting darker and darker the day of a hanging. it was because of mans hate and prejudices consumed the world with darkness.

Darkness at Noon. The sun doesn't rise due to an execution.

Monsters on Maple St. Aliens create electronic confusion causing panic and xenophobia on Maple St.

I can't seem to recall an TOL on it.

Darkness starring Anna Paquin: The monsters are in the creeping darkness and can only be held at bay by light.

I think the shadow stands for death in general, symbolically dark as always. It causes delusions, represented by religion in the movie. People try to fight it with existentialist poetry, they lose. But children are still the saviors of the human race, so they survive.

Come to think of it I agree with the other guy that said this movie is better as a short or a TZ episode.

The ending it has was perfect. If it described why and how what happened there would be no interest in the film, you could easily spend a minute and have a shot of a UFO over earth, or angels discussing the merits of finally getting round to sorting out those chimps, a broken vial in a laboratory, and that would end the discussion.

People needing spoon fed all the story is pretty sad, as it is it'll live on long past its due date.

Let's be honest, there was no ending, no explanation, and no real thought about the end of the movie beyond the circumstantial *beep* that that piles up through the movie's ridiculous time running. The director himself has said as much. So you -should- feel cheated by this moronic effort.

Obviously this movie was Night of the Comet without the pretty girls, humor, explanation and plot.

Which means it sucked.

Its pretty simple what is going on its end of days etc.
The main character said that every day the sun came up for less until it stopped coming up. If it was aliens they could not control the sun only darken the sky however that would not be a gradual thing so you would not see the sun come up for less and less plus there would be no moonlight so the whole world would be pure black. black holes and negative matter do not create moving ghosts who suck people away nor would light effect either therefore demons or end of days

I'm curious to explore your theory--i.e. 'end of days'. So, outside of 5 people, the entire town popuplation is taken away? Why would 'end of days' be executed in such a manner? A possible response to the sun comment is (with regards to aliens) they are simply getting stronger every day. It seems they are creatures<?> who thrive in darkness (which those taken become a part of). Why would 'end of days' be a living entity (or entities)? There was intelligence with this darkness--i.e. when light illuminated the surrounding, the darkness withdrew. The light didn't seem to harm them (or it) that we could tell. Given the poorly written script, my vote is they couldn't provide a valid explanation and ran with the ending. Let's look at the young black boy. Are we honestly supposed to think, after all he went through, he's going to run into the church? If that happened earlier in the movie, ok, I'd give it to them, but that far into the film? In truth, this movie reminded me of Stephen King's Under the Dome. I was thinking they were being tested--i.e. the one magical truck that worked and the bar, which apparently is the only place in the entire town with a generator! Still, one fact is the title of the movie--i.e. Vanishing on 7th Street. This fact still doesn't help as people vanished *off* 7th Street; lots of people. Why would "7th Steet" be put in the title if it didn't have relevance? Outside of the bar, which seemed to, amazingly enough, power everything in the bar including the jukebox (guess folks liked to hear music in a crisis, especially a crisis where light is critical to their survival), there wasn't much to 7th Street. Let's also not forget the mysterious little girl. Solar powered flashlight? Hunh? Didn't they say the sun came up less and less? Oh, but I suppose it sucked up solar rays very quickly. Hmm ... nobody else could find one of those flashlights? Really? How come she ran from everyone else but practically begged the kid to stay? Sorry for the sarcasm but this was just a bad movie. Still, I did love the sneakers that lit up. Yeah, that'll keep the darkness away. SUPER bright lights.

What would you've wanted to be the reason? Aliens? The government? Monsters? Radiation? Pollution? Demons? What more than "the darkness begins killing people" do you need? Did you have to know why the birds began killing people in Hitchcock's The Birds? Did you have to know who was infected at the end of The Thing?

Let's say that the government created a device that could control darkness (?) but it went haywire and destroyed humanity. Okay, sure, but then you could still ask "but why did they want to control darkness?" And then they explain that they wanted to use it as a weapon, but then you could still ask "but why did they want to use it as a weapon?" And they explain they want to use it to take over the world, but then you could still ask "but why do they want to take over the world?" See? It's never ending. It's better that they left it unexplained because something like what I just described above would be hilariously stupid.
