As a Muslim

I've just watched the first 5 minutes of the film and I hope it gets better. They OBVIOUSLY didn't get any Muslim people to advise on the film.

That's odd because I saw the first five minutes just now and it is quite good. Also Qasim Basir wrote it and directed it and he is very much a Muslim... and everything in the movie would require a thorough knowledge of Islam and American Musim culture.

May be you just need to save any comments until after you get past the first five minutes!

I agree with the original poster; I did sit through the whole film and it was terrible. Wiping the face after dua'a, gender mixing, and those horrible "hijab" fashion statements - bad bad bad.

You do realize Islam is a vast religion that varies through cultures and sects right? Personally, as a muslim child born in the west with a strict upbringing pre and post 9-11, it VERY accurately depicted my life and I know quite a few people who would feel the same. It's a shame that this movie got such a low rating here. Maybe I'm biased because I really appreciated a movie that defined a lot of my upbringing, but it really is not a movie with cliches.
