Tried really hard to be Clockwork....

The film tried really hard to be Clockwork Orange with a Trainspotting/Requiem for a Dream twist. I thought it was pretty good and Mccavoy's acting was top notch, but his character was just too insane and too much of a douche bag. Definitely worth a view though if you're into any of the above films.

I kept thinking of Snatch as well.

I think the screenplay needed a re-write. It shifts direction -way- too often. The whole back story of his illness, his background and even his cross-dressing are thrown in -way- too late. They needed to drop a number of the gags (which got repetitive) to make room for a clearer story.

It's sad because Macavoy's work is -great-, as are many of the small roles (Eddie Marzdan just kills).

Both filth and trainspotting are based on books written by Irvine welsh, probably they seen similar

I think of it as being inspired by A Clockwork Orange and James McAvoy really reminded me of Malcom McDowell also.

I'm interested as to why you compare it to A Clockwork Orange? I see no comparison at all?

The 'tapeworm doctor' had exactly the same speech as Alex's teacher in A Clockwork Orange. That's about it though.

At the beginning the Japanese guy got beaten up/murdered in the tunnel or underpass, just like the homeless man at beginning of A Clockwork Orange (although that was under a bridge). The joyful music accompanying violence. There's almost always an orange item in sight. The psychiatrist saying "yeeeesss?" like Alex's doctor. Those are some things I noticed.
