Better than many rom-coms these days..

I watched this movie having very low expectations and though it wasn't perfect, but it had a heart, a good plot and an interesting surprising ending, the writing was intelligent and script was ok for a low budget movie...definitely better than many recent romantic comedies, the only better rom-coms this year were Scott Pilgrim vs the World and Easy A..

Why so Serious ?

Agreed. It was everything it needed to be. :D

How is this a romantic comedy again? Where's the comedy in this movie?

reply

Well it wasn't spoon-fed to the viewer, by the way, do all rom-coms have laugh out loud humor, there was humor but mild, mostly the movie thrived on its ending...

There was no humor, if by humor you mean 'the brother' playing a guy who gets screwed by a gum company, and gets all this un-wanted fame, then decides to charge 5 dollars for an autograph, haha so deep, so funny.

That's the only part that I can recall actually trying to be funny, which failed. The rest was pure romance, it's a romance movie. They threw the comedy title in there to attract sales. I don't have a problem with romance movies, but I do have a problem with this trend that's going on with studios classyfying everything as romantic-comedy when in fact they're not.

Also, I don't see how the movie thrived with it's ending, when the ending was so obvious and predictable.

... when the ending was so obvious and predictable

Liar.. how is this so obvious & predictable, seriously..

How can you tell from the beginning, that Troy wasn't real and only a character that Ethan wrote. and could you figure out that Jesse was sterile (the reason why she would run away from Ethan)not until the end of the movie?
You must be psychic then..

reply

Uhm, yes, it was painfully obvious that she couldn't have children and that there would be some kind of "he's doing what the editor told him to in the very beginning"-writing-twist. They shoved it in your face. If you didn't figure it out in the first ten minutes, you must be... the dream demographic for crappy predictable cheese like this. That's sad.

reply

Bum bum, it wasn't painfully obvious.

IF you guessed it (which we'll never know if you actually did) it was a lucky guess, and you could have been completely wrong. There could be other reasons she might not want to marry Ethan that it is painfully obvious you hadn't considered.

I agree with the OP, this movie was surprisingly really cute and endearing. If this was a real situation, in which Jessie had to pick out of these two characters, It would have really been a toughie as both are adorable.
