Oh come on!

It's too bad that:

A) There's no discussion about this movie and
B) The rating is low (mostly due to dudes it seems)

Although not gay myself, I do watch gay and lesbian films because they tend to have an inherent element of suspense (usually the character will get into some kind of trouble if their sexuality is discovered).

I've certainly seen some bad ones but here was a really good one with the same director and lead actress of The Gymnast and it really sucks no one seems to have seen it and that the rating is so low. It's a solid 6.5 or higher.

Granted there are a few murky plot points but it was a good movie.

Don't try to cash in love, that check will always bounce.

How's about its because no one know this film existed? Heck, I came here by accident.

oh come on! is RIGHT! Where are people's post and feedback?! You're the only one! It's a big shame that there was virtually no marketing for this film (if any) I came to learn of it from my BF who highly recommended it and he came to learn of it by accident while browsing through a movie website. I'm not lesbian but that didn't stop me from enjoying this film. I was also glad it didn't go telling the story of a lesbian by sexually EXPLOITING women... THAT'S RARE! That's probably why men hated this movie...except my BF cause I know how to pick 'em! Glad you liked it. My brother didn't, he said it was boring cause I guess there wasn't enough tna for his tiny brain! Mind you it wasn't perfect and it could have laid off showing every woman in their underwear but hey you take what you can get.

My topic was deleted. I only watched some of the movie. So I decided not to rate it but it would be pretty low. The actors are mediocre and the plot is rather weak. The movie depends on the whole lesbian storyline to get viewers but it fails on every level.

reply

You say yourself you only watched part of the movie, so how could you rate it at all?

I'm a straight guy by the way, and don't think that is relevant at all but unfortunately there are a lot of bigoted morons in this world.

This movie was better than I expected because of the low 5.8 rating it currently has. I gave it a 7, as I think it is not amazing, but also not bad at all, and I think it's a solid, decent movie.

reply

That why I decided not to rate it.

It's not too surprising there's not (m)any comments about this movie - it's an indie film without any (very) well-known actors, it probably played a few LGBT film festivals & went to DVD. That said, based on what I HAVE read here (on imdb & this board) I'll probably rent it sometime.

If it makes you feel any better, some BIG STARS have movies few people have heard of, mainly because they are TURKEYS that play in one or two cities for a week or 2 before going to DVD (or just go straight to DVD):

-Powder Blue, starring Jessica Biel, Ray Liotta, Forest Whitaker & the late Patrick Swayze

-Crossing Over, starring Harrison Ford & Ashley Judd (poor Ashley, she needs a good movie)

-The Ledge, starring Liv Tyler

-Playing By Heart, starring (get this!) Angelina Jolie, Dennis Quaid, Gillian Anderson, Ryan Phillippe, Jon Stewart and Madeline Stowe [!]

I'm a man (more or less) and I pretty much enjoyed the picture. I was familiar with the star from THE GYMNAST, but I prefer MARINE. The story is stronger and it didn't go in the direction I thought it would. Also, I thought the violence in the meth house was well-staged for a low-budget indie. Not the greatest flick, but good enough.

Came across this one on Hulu Plus. I was surprised that this was an actually well done film. Wasn't done in a cheesy way and brought up some good takes behind the whole DADT policy. The acting was well done and kudos to the actress who played the main character, she really embraced the role.

reply

I rented out of a Redbox and it is not obvious that it is an LGBT movie. Some folks may have been disappointed by the plot and instead expected a war movie, not an LGBT indie against DADT.

Trying not to be too windy, I thought from reading the description (Netflix)and watching the first part, that it was a female version of "Walking Tall" (1973) not knowing the glbt spin. Once I read the description more thoroughly I read about her mysterious departure from the Marine Corps. As a lesbian military veteran, that made me go "mmmm". I came here and read the spoilers which confirmed my suspicion. I think if it hadn't been for the lesbian angle I wouldn't have watched it and enjoyed it, due to the low budget.

Two types of people would enjoy this movie: P90X fans and LGBTs.

reply

There's a third type: Dreya Weber fans! I've enjoyed her acting since before the P90X infomercials came out.

Yes there are simply too many males signed up to IMDB therefore the ratings are always skewed towards their favor and movies that are male oriented, no matter how crappy they are, end up getting higher ratings than they deserve.
