Would Charlize have survived if she ran sideways?

At the end, when the alien spaceship was falling down, and rolling.. why were the women running in the same direction as the spaceship? Wouldn't they get out of the danger by running sideways?

Like if you walk in the middle of the street, and a car comes at you, you don't run in the same direction as the car, you jump on the sidewalk..

No?

1. The ship was protecting them from falling debris of the Prometheus. Every time the girls tried to run at an angle, they were turned back by explosive debris.

2. Shaw DID run to the side, and survived. Exactly as you recommend.

3. Also, unless one can predict the future, there is a bigger chance of the ship falling to either side at any moment. Just look at what happened to Shaw: She ran to the side, and then the ship tipped over and fell on top of her.

Then they should have let it roll past an then run after it, still in it's protection.

Doesn't explain why the debris from the explosion from miles away laned vertically on top of them.

Along with the biologist's decision to try and cuddle an ugly hissing alien snake and the few times that characters just can't help sticking thier fingers and what ever else in strange black alien goo when ever they see it, this is one of the dumbest scenes in the movie. It's the kind of thing you expect to see in some horror parody, not a high quality sci-fi. Shaw only moved sideways at the last moment, like it took her a few minutes to work it out, and to top it all even then she moved in the direction it had just began to fall sideways! I think most people in that situation would rather take a chance on some random debris than getting crushed by a million ton object who's trajectory you can be pretty sure of in the immediate short-term.

To people who think what they do makes sense, if you had to cross a busy motorway for some reason, how would you go about it? Would you take a route most perpendicular to the direction of the traffic in order to spend as little time on the road as possible, would you move diagonally or would you try and go in the direction of the traffic? Hmm, I know which i'd choose and I'm not even a qualified scientist.

The script said the evil character had to die, so they made her die. They didn't think about the rest, they never though beyond the scene that they were filming IMO. Haven't you seen the rest of the film ? Nothing makes any sense !

reply

Yep, she would have survived if she had run to the side. Unless the ship rolled over to that side of course. That happened to Shaw, but she got lucky because she was lying next to a rock that saved her.

I really hated Meredith, so I was glad she was thrown under the bus or the spaceship. I know that it sounds childish, but her character annoyed the hell out of me.

I am not afraid of the car, Captain. I am afraid of YOU driving the car.

reply

Maybe.
But it's also possible that if Vickers had run sideways that she would have been killed by falling debris.
Or the ship would have tipped over towards the side she had run to and would have crushed her anyway.

Just a bad situation

it is just in my opinion - imo - 🌈

Once the Juggernaut slowed its roll down they both should have ran towards the three vagina openings in the very middle which were already touching the ground and not likely to move very much more once the two prongs on either side began to fall flat. Dumb broads.

God I hope not. Her character was so nasty that I applauded when she died.
