If you think that the odst campaign is the best story in the Halo franc, then I think that this further assures me that Halo haters are *beep* idiots.

I think [the title of the latest Hollywood blockbuster] is the greatest movie ever made!

Best story? No. He said the campaign is fun. Stories aren't fun. Gameplay is fun. And this game has the second best gameplay, right behind Halo CE.

Gameplay:
Halo CE
Halo ODST
Halo 3
Halo 2

Story
Halo CE
Halo 2
Halo 3
Halo ODST

But the writing relates to the atmoshpere and atmosphere relates to the general gameplay. And what's this Halo 2 having the worst gameplay?

Worst AI. Dumbest Marines of all time, probably kill you more than the covenant. Melee system is terrible. You fly toward the enemy at 90mph and most of the time miss, even if you land right infront of them. This usually sends you flying off the edge of the map in multiplayer. One melee from a computer kills you completely, no matter what difficulty. Legendary mode isn't "co-op friendly," hardly any checkpoints, I find myself having to go about 10 minutes of gameplay back to where I was.

etc, etc...

Well considering the ODSt writing is actually witty and the story isn't a convolted piece of *beep* yeah I could see why you could like ODST's story more.

That said, I don't hate halo. but the story is generic sci fi crap.

I'm a pretty big Halo fan, and I thought the storyline for ODST was actually some of the best writing of all the games. IMO the ranking for their stories go:

Halo 2 - We see the inner working of the Covenant for the first time, and are introduced to the Arbiter. He got all the crappy Flood levels, but overall he was a pretty interesting character.

Halo ODST - Witty dialogue, nice character interaction, and a creative narrative. I don't see why you seem to hate it so much. It even had the sideplot with Sadie. Also Engineers, which are a race the book readers have wanted to see since day one.

Halo CE - Rather bland, but an overall solid story, plus it's the one that started it all.

Halo 3 - Didn't really like the story all that much. Cortana channeling Master Cheif made no sense at all, and the ending was anticlimactic. 343 GS as a final boss? That's lame, he's a talking box that floats around and has the most avoidable weapon ever. Some sort of showdown or closure with Gravemind would've been far better (this ties in with a gameplay complaint, but this being a videogame, the plot often intertwines with the gameplay, such as in final bosses).

Halo Wars - Like most RTSs, there's not much of a story here, though it doesn't pretend to have one so that's fine.

In terms of gameplay, I'd list them like so:

Halo 3 - Fixed most of the problems in Halo 2, and was just a very great game. Best multiplayer of all of them.

Halo ODST - Also an awesome game, it kicked ass. Not much more I can say about it. Interesting dynamic than the others, since you're not a Spartan anymore. My ONE complaint is that the needler got nerfed.

Halo CE - Great for its time, but starting to show its age these days.

Halo 2 - Just aweful gameplay. Terrible balance issues, the sticky aim was jacked up ridiculously high, rockets turned vehicles into death traps, and the weapon you spawn with was absolutely worthless until you could find a replacement or something to dual wield with it.

Since Halo Wars is a different genre completely it is not comparable to the others, and so I leave it off this list.

I've only played Halo 3 & ODST, and I like ODST a hell of a lot better.

I have to say that I like ODST more than the rest of the series. I felt more connected to the characters and was nail biting til the end to see if the rest of the squad was going to survive. Didnt get that feel from the other Halo games, ( by the by, never played Halo Wars). I just wish the campaign was a little longer. But I deffinetly hope that the continue the story of Buck and his team.

Why is it whenever someone says "with all due respect", they really mean "kiss my ass"?

I agree about the characters. They're all a hell of a lot better and more likable than the rest of the characters in the Halo series. (unless you want to count the characters of Red vs. Blue.)

Plus, ODST has Capt. Mal, Jayne and Wash in it front and center! I mean, Capt. Mal is the sh!t! He's easily one of the coolest dudes out there. (definitely the coolest Canadian.)

Only played combat evolved, a bit of 2, beginning of 3 and odst.

When I first played 2, if felt completely different from the first. I didn't like the fact it didn't have the assault rifle. But I liked the mini SMG's.

Halo 3, what I played felt like halo 1 more.

ODST is diffferent from em all, mainly cause your not the chief, instead you're the Firefly guys...which is awesome.

Makes sense that the Gears player likes the game that copied Gears' idea.
