Kalispell

I used to live in Kalispell and I am really disappointed with its representation in this movie. It is not a tiny little town in the mountains, but rather in a valley surrounded by mountains. It is also one of the most expensive cities to live in in MT and there is no way she could rent that house for $525. And we don't have southern accents!!

I live in Kalispell and I had the exact same reaction. What an insult. It would have been easy to either get the characteristics of the town right or just change the setting to Circle or Colstrip. And what's with the accents? We're in the Rocky Mountains!

Yeah, I've spent some time in Kalispell, though I live in Helena and I sat there like WTF?

I live in Montana and always get a little excited when I see a movie is about the state. I'm usually disappointed. I just hate that people who aren't from around here think we're all either small town hicks, cowboys or Indians. We have style, Starbucks and we listen to music other than country. For once I'd like to see a movie that accurately shows Montana. It's such a beautiful state and fun to live in. I especially like the Flathead Valley and the Bozeman area.

I definitely agree. I went to school in Bozeman, but have several friends from Kalispell and went there a couple times. And, from what I remember it isn't at all like this movie portrayed it. It is a small town by New York standards, but certainly not podunk. Watching it, I felt more like it must have been set in Miles City or something.

OMG!!! what i had to go through just to post a message...anyways, years ago I went to Missoula (i live in California), and it was not hick, or any of those stereo types! I never got to Kalispell, but Missoula was a pretty big city to me.Montana is an awesome state, wonderful people and beautiful. If your going to make a movie and set it in a real place, at least be accurate.! They would have been better off making up a city than falsely portraying Kalispell Montana!!!

I used to fly layovers there when I worked for the airlines, and it was a beautiful place. Nope, no Southern accents up there, and I'm from the South and brought mine to town. They had a wonderful spot downtown for coffee, tea, breakfast, donuts, etc., and it was a great layover hangout. I remember it being in a valley surrounded by mountains also, and it could really be a bear landing there at night when the weather was at low limits. Beautiful place, and I don't think they really did it justice in the movie.

All in all, a cute little movie. Chick flick...

I thought the scenery was great, but I know the feeling of tv getting locations wrong. I live in DC and sometimes the representations make me cringe. The only places they seem to get (mostly) right are New York City and perhaps LA.

This TV movie apparently shot this in Canada and not in Montana.

Flathead lake=amazing. there is some beautiful scenery around Kalispell. and things are expensive there, but that's not the only place, lol. anyway, if you think this movie makes the area look bad, try reading the Flathead Valley Police Blotter online. LOL You will seriously wonder if it is for real. check it out, it is funny as all get out. but i like Kalispell and the people there are not a bunch of dumb hicks and such. the only weird ones i have met are my in-laws LOLOLOLOL

I love this little movie, mostly because I adore Kristin Chenoweth. I try and catch it on every Christmas. I hear you all on the portrayal of your city. I live in Georgia. SOUTH Georgia. And let me tell you...it doesn't get any better. People think Atlanta is the only thing happening in Georgia. Imagine how hard it is convincing people that there are other locales in Georgia where people wear shoes, have running water, and instead of using a fork to scratch our backs, we actually use them to eat with. I think it took a zombie show (The Walking Dead) to give the world pause concerning the rest of the state.

Personally, I think it's a Hollywood thing. These stories often come from a Hollywood machine that is never really kind, considerate or tries to educate people on a large scale about the OTHER states and regions of this country which ironically, makes Hollywood look like the hicks. Hollywood tries to market itself as some kind of "uber-liberal, live and let live, hipster type voice of the people" when it is anything but that. It continues to perpetuate myopic perceptions and vicious prejudices about the people in this country who work, farm, and try to make a living outside of L.A. and the wealthy elite. Again, they are the hicks.
