Why 'North'?

Why did they use the name "North" instead of "Santa Claus"?

Because he is not known as Santa Clause everywhere, Only in North America (I think). Where i am from we call him Father Christmas. North is a more universal non descriptive term.

reply

Santa Claus is not North American. It comes from Sinterklaas, which is Germanic in origin.

In Britain it's often Father Christmas.
In Sweden it's "Jultomten", the Yule Gnome. (Our gnomes are a little different.)
In Denmark it's "Julemanden", the Yule Man.

It's not nihilism if there's a question mark at the end.

The character in the books this film is based off is called "Nicholas St. North".

I just wonder if they didn't use any of the various names for Santa in different countries to make this movie more global. By choosing a completely alternative name like North they are not ignoring any nation's pet name for Santa by giving him the American version of his name.
