Maybe it's because I DON'T watch alot of those "WWE/MMA" direct-to-video action crapfests, maybe it's because I was hoping more of Abel Ferrara's influence would have stuck to the film (Abel was director of the film for the first week or so, but he left to concentrate on the aborted "Dr. Jeckyll and Mr. Hyde" film with 50 Cent), maybe it's because Snipes used to be a GREAT action star, and I was hoping he'd make his last film before prison a great one.
But, whatever the reason, this SUCKED! Normally, I am too sucked into a "movie's universe" to notice things like guns with 10,000 round clips; assassins that miss (or hit) their target, depending on the script's needs; and other "movie mistakes". This film though, krist!! Stupid "artsy shots", stunt people trying to act (a deep voiced, wearin'-LOTS-of-cover-up-over-facial-hair-stubble, monotonic Zoe Bell, anyone??), and one thing nobody else has pointed out on the entire "Game Of Death" board - the ending.
Yes, he went through the proper "Christian Redemption Process" (Snipes told the priest all of his bad deeds, was forgiven for them, and even given a vague 'act of contrition'. [Something like, "Let Jesus into your heart, and do whatever Jesus tells you to do"]) That whole part was probably left over from Abel's work on the film, as he's REALLY into Catholic redemption. But what happens to Snipes... besides playing b-ball? He's the most wanted man in the country, accused of being a CIA agent gone bad, who killed his own team members (and many innocents) in order to get tens of millions of dollars; other than the doctor, there's no one to even corroborate one scintilla of the truth (the "CIA boss", who said this couldn't be linked to the CIA [so no paper trail or anything] was killed early on). So I'd say about 5 seconds after he plays hoops in the final scene, a SWAT sniper takes him out.
