I have lost all respect for Paulino (spoilers)

Up until three days ago I thought he was the strongest of the three men, and a good father. For all his sexist viewpoints about women managing businesses or property he was willing to accept his daughter as she is and he used to defend her to her hateful mother.

WTF happened?

He caved to Rosario's demand that Lucrezia be homeschooled instead of attending the same school as Julian and nearly a year later he caved to sending her away to a boarding school in Oaxaca, even taking her there himself.

Does he not see that if Julian had been responsible for Cesar's death Lucrezia wouldn't associate with him? Why is he incapable of seeing the flaw in Rosario's account of the incident on the stairs?

Delphina appears to be the only voice of reason in that household. However, Rosario's insane pride in her position as patrona will never allow her to listen to her... or even to the priest.

He probably doesn't want to have any problems with his wife especially since she's gotten so depressed about their son's death.

Anybody think that Paulino is a weird name? lol Maybe because I have the female equivalent name (Paulina), I just find it odd somebody having that name.

He said he was sending Lucrezia away in order to prevent Rosario making her life hell. In his eyes, he is protecting Lucrezia from her mother. I think it is a combination of this and, like ph starz said, trying to avoid any problems with his wife.

While I'm the first to say that one's primary loyalty belongs to a spouse before a child, I think the line has to be drawn when said spouse abuses the child.

Paulino is taking the easy way out. He is not considering how emotionally damaging this is to his daughter. Sending Lucrezia away is getting her away from her mother, but Rosario is mentally ill and needs treatment. I'm surprised the doctor didn't say so, but then again he most likely has no idea what's been going on in that family.

When I described this to a friend who doesn't watch the series, she reminded me about the film Ordinary People. I guess the situation could escalate into something much worse because Lucrezia is a girl.

Paulino might be the son of a Pablo, but since it appears that none of the adult characters in the prologue have parents, we may never know.
