Indeed, she did nothing to alleviate the suffering. Suffering for her was confession of faith.
Meanwhile, there was a lot of money in donations. That was partly put in the anti-abortion movement and partly went to the Swiss bank accounts.
When she herself was ill, she traveled to the USA to get the very best care. But in her homes was a filthy mess, they were among the worst and worst equiped in India.

Have to agree. People need to stop taking things at face value and believing the propaganda of the vatican/elite. She was a sociopath who reveled in the suffering of others. Nuns who worked in her *beep* hole 'homes', (hovels more like), have admitted what went on there and it's not in the least uplifting or supportive of teresa's role in the world of poverty and illness that exists in India. She was scum and thank goodness for people like Christopher Hitchens who managed to cut through the *beep* and show us the truth.

A few years back, a priest speaking at a retreat said when he travels (a lot), he is frequently approached by someone who says ...I'm an atheist. And they spend the rest of the flight talking about God. He said atheists talk about God more than believers. I think he's right.

I personally did not know Mother Teresa. What I have heard from people who did know her was that she was completely focused on helping the poor and that she saw God in everyone. She also had a secret, which was she had a very dry prayer life. Prayer did not come easy to her, she was sometimes depressed and frequently lonely. That surprised me.

Haters gotta hate. Continue on...

Christopher Hitchens has a clear political agenda which has nothing to do with who Mother Teresa really was, or with the movie "The Letters". Hitchens, as others in the propaganda piece that "autechre113" posted, will only see what they choose to see. They see deceit, greed and negligence, which in reality is a reflection of who THEY are.

I have read the published letters that Mother Teresa wrote throughout her life. I don't know yet how faithfully this movie captures her struggles, but I am looking forward to watching it in the theaters!

Do you believe in faith based healing too? What about those snake wielding pastors in Alabama?

All you religious folk are equally stupid..

Mother Teresa was an evil person and there is actual history and fact to support this. Propaganda is believing the pie in the sky and the bearded Caucasian man image of God. GTFO with that *beep*

Ah, an angry elitist atheist who is infinitely superior to all the "equally stupid" religious people. So you really believe you're smarter then every person who's ever been religious? This is the elitist attitude that people usually refer to.

"This is the elitist attitude that people usually refer to. " Unlike believing you're going to heaven to be with all your dead pets and grandparents, while those who don't believe suffer infinite punishment in hell. Brother, you don't know what the definition of 'elitist' is.

What happened to you to make you so full of hatred??! I hope someday you can replace that hate with love.

I guess I just don't understand why non believers feel the need to belittle those who do believe.

I am not full of hate, talking about common sense. Mother Teresa's reputation as a toll collector for vatican, while parading the sick around as charity bait and leaving them to die in horrible conditions - all of this is well established.

If it interferes with the angelic image of her you have formed in your head, too bad. The whole world doesn't share your faith based delusions.

You don't have to listen to Hitchen's about, Journeyman Pictures also has a documentary on YT. Her homes are now officially under criminal investigation.

reply

Wow! Such anger towards Mother Teresa. Did you know her? Did you work with her? Did you see her being such a vial human?

reply

Did you know her? Did you work with her? Did you see her being a 'saint' of a person? Let her actions speak for themselves. They were inconsistent/-considerate at best.

What have you done to alleviate the suffering and hunger of your fellow man? Are you just a hateful individual or are you actually someone who helps others and has dedicated her life to helping others in the most deplorable and disgusting conditions known to man? Do you take in the terminally ill so that they do not have to die alone feeling unwanted and unloved?

I didn't know they could do cloning back then.

Haha! Gotta love some of the posts like this one here! Look, she drew a fair share of criticisms and controversies....fine, but the posts here make it sound like she's Adolf Hitler. Its hilarious.

reply

The haters here and their blind hypocrisy are both sad and hilarious. And they say religious folk are believing in fiction and propaganda. They come off as nuttier than the nutty religious. It's people like that who gives atheists a bad name.

It's quite ridiculous isn't it?

I saw the film after reading the NYT review. Found it to be pretty accurate, it's a simple film but I liked it.

Hitchens found fault with Lady Diana also, as he was a whore for the crown.
