Independant films deserve a bad rap when they're more often like this or movies like Wendy & Lucy, or Trashhumpers. Boring self indulgent, with dislikeable and stupid lead characters that engender very little empathy.
They frequently beat one topic to death and focus on dysfunction. The acting
isn't the problem in this or Wendy & Lucy, a problem that plagues most under
funded productions, but rather a meandering road film with a driver that should be a passenger on a short bus. Not this short bus. Or the movie 'short bus'. I felt certain that Vincent Gallo would overtake him on the Salt Flats with his brown bunny.

I couldn't agree more. What the hell was that crap I just sat through? Bass Ackwards is perhaps the worst example of an "independent" film I've ever come across. I really hope this dude does not get funded again.. hell, give the money to me and I'll at least have the audience laugh, cry and feel something.

The movie is great, you just have to be in the right mood and know what to expect. The main character is believable, which is a rarity these days.

I agree with sick-spaz. you have to be in a similar mood to enjoy this movie. it is slow but i truly don't mind it. reminds me of the days when i used to go on long road trips. i like the road scenes and some of the acting.
and for you haters, let up on the pretentiousness a little and try to enjoy.

I think it wasn't that bad of a movie, I agree its a road journey, but an inwards road journey, much like Wendy and Lucy (which I think was an inequally great movie, about a young girl and the relationship she has with her dog)Source:Bass Ackwards Reviewhttp://moviereviews.noskram.com/2010/07/movie-reviews-bass-ackwards
