A great documentary

I didn't know anything about Vito until I saw the movie documentary based on his book, The Celluloid Closet, which instantly became my favourite in much the same way as his book and presentation did for others in this film.

This documentary gave me a look at the person who made that possible, among many other things. I wasn't aware of his activism.

I'm baffled there's no other conversation here, no reviews.

I'm stopping here, because I suck at writing reviews of things I actually liked. Your turn.

What a fascinating film. He was such a brave and brilliant guy. What a shame he had to die at such a young age. Gay people really do owe him a big debt of thanks for the pioneering work he and his peers did to pave the way for the benefits we are beginning to enjoy in the current century.

Loved "Celluloid Closet" and had no idea Vito wrote the book and unearthed the film clips. Very educational and moving documentary.

One of the few documentaries I've seen that's both informative and entertaining. I loved it. So many people were crying in my screening, including myself.

I saw this film yesterday at the Iris Prize Film Festival in Cardiff. I'd never heard of Vito Russo before and although I had heard of The Celluloid Closet I've neither seen nor read it.

As i was watching the film I thought I would be on my feet clapping at the end, but when it did finish I (like the rest of the audience) just sat there in silence, I was so overwhelmed by the film and by Vito the person. On leaving the screening a friend asked if I was OK and I could only grunt an acknowledgement as if I had spoken I would have been in tears.

I can't believe I've never heard of Vito Russo before and, as a gay man, I owe him and others like him a huge debt of gratitude for where gay politics and gay acceptance are today.
