Let Them Eat Cake Episode

I love all of Giada's recipes and watch as many of her episodes as possible. On this particular episode, she had some kids over for a party and they all decorated pound cakes. At the end she was going to reward the kid that did the best cake designs. I had a hunch that she was going give all of the kids the reward and sure enough they all "fairly" got a blue ribbon.

Now I know this has nothing to do with her show, but what was up with that? Why are adults nowadays so terrified of teaching children what healthy competition looks like? God forbid anyone was to get jealous and start crying because their cake (in their mind) looked like crap!

First, lets make a law against bullying, then execute models promoting poor body image in young girls, and lastly eliminate all competitions, including the Olympics! What happened to a world were kids weren't made to be such sissies? When I was young, I had to deal with all of these things, so why can't kids today do that?

Sorry. I just had to get that out, LOL!

I agree that competitions don't need to be so neutralized nor eliminated not to hurt one's feelings, but I kind of end there. With the zero tolerance policy in most schools if the victim of bullying stands up for himself, he's going to find himself in detention if not suspended (or worst case, expelled) while NOTHING happens to the bully. And models have been promoting poor body image for quite some time.

It's always nice for everyine to get something but, yeah, I agree that the best should get the big prize. Competition is what it is, after all. My nephew had a birthday card competition at his birthday party and, barring those who were obviously done by their parents (6 to 8 year olds) a prize was given and everyone was fine with it. No screaming or crying. The kids had cake, ice cream and there was a pool party. All was well.
