"Dude, What Would Happen" and "Destroy, Build, Destroy" are ratings successes for Cartoon Network, so despite some people being mad that they aren't showing cartoons 24/7 anymore, and being upset that these shows seem stupid to them, they'll continue until they aren't profitable anymore, as this is a business and what makes money is what gets put on. If any executive decided to cancel a successful show and put something else on that wouldn't be successful just because it fit the old theme of the network, they'd be fired, or worse. It's all about money and pleasing the shareholders.
Additionally, both shows, on their second season premieres February 24, 2010 were #1 amongst boys 6-11 (the main target group of the shows) on ANY network in those time slots, network or cable. That means that, for boys 6-11, on Feb. 24, there was nothing more important that they wanted to see than those shows.
This is the 21st century, and as much as some of us don't like certain things, these shows will continue, teens will still pierce every inch of their faces and wear their hair as though they came straight out of a Final Fantasy game, and everything, no matter how enjoyable, no matter how many millions watch it, will be subject to cancellation for dropping a couple of tenths of a point in the ratings to make room for something else that will be canceled soon after.
Everything is moving fast. Nothing is sticking to what it once was, and no amount of complaining will force it to change. Cartoon Network will show live action shows, TV for men will eventually show a program made for women, and ESPN will eventually show something that's actually entertaining for a change.
There's always DVD collections being released of stuff from "the good old days"... at least until DVDs are totally obsolete as well.
Personally, I'd like to see the "Dudes" transferred over to the Food Network.
Dude, what would happen if we built the world's largest chocolate cake bomb?
A delicious disaster!
