This just a (bad) piece of political propaganda - just ignore it

For those who are unaware of Brazilian politics, you should know that this movie is just a piece of propaganda aiming to transform Luis Ignacio Lula da Silva, today's president of Brazil, into some sort of divinity, martir or something alike, so that he can elect his sucessor or even, as some of his party peers support, try to run for a third term in office. The fact that it was released only a few months before presidential election in Brazil is no coincidence at all.

This movie has no connection whatsoever to reality, as it portraits Lula as someone who only do good things and has good intentions, when of course every human being has a good and a bad side. Well, this movie hides all Lulas bad deeds - like I said, it tries to portrait him as a saint.

This movie shamelessly rewrites history and tries to transform into "historical truth" things that just didn't happened. And, even if its intention was to be a work of fiction (which is not), or a serious cinebiography, it would still be a bad movie: corny story, really bad acting, full of cliches, embarrassing bad dialogues.

So, don't waste your time seeing it. This is a movie tailor ordered by PT (Lula's Brazilian politic party). Basically, it's just bad political propaganda.

I hate advice such as "don't waste your time watching this", specially when the movie has some political importance... Sounds like "hey, I don't agree with the ideas conveyed by the movie, so it's a bad movie".

The world is envious of Brazil for its president. Yet, some Brazilians are unable to recognize the good Lula's been doing to his country... Unavoidable in democracies...

reply

See, this is exactly what I was talking about. This movie is just mere political propaganda, so if you criticize it, of course a Lula follower would imediatelly complain, with delusional arguments such as "the world is envious (???) of Brazil for its president".

I mean, what does it have to do with anything? This a bad movie, period. Bad acting, bad dialogues, bad directing, corky plot.

There are great movies about hideous characteres, and terrible movies about great people. And what ruins this movie is exactly the fact that this material is not intended to be a good and truethful movie, but rather a piece of political propaganda. Of course Lula's life story could have produced a good movie - if the director was imparcial about the character.

However, this is not the intention of the movie (to portrait the story of someone), but simply to promote someone as a divinity with political ends, distorting history in the meanwhile.

Just notice as this "an_br" doenst mention the movie's elements (plot, acting, direction etc). For him (or her), if it is about Lula, it has be be good! One cannot criticized it. If you do, you are someone who is envious and jealous, someone who fails to bow to Lula's greatness.

And this critique to democracy (different opinions are unavoidable in democracies...) was really scary, as there are indeed many Lula's followers who believe that no one should have the right to be against him....

Você ainda vai chorar as cebolas do Egito...

Sad, but true. As a brazillian, I can confirm.
Although the movie is not focused on politics, it does aim to turn a suspected corrupt into a hero.

E tu que argumento, tu tá errado.

Essa classe mediazinha raivosa e paga-pau da Veja acha que é o único soldado no passo certo...

Rising up from the deepest poverty to the command of a nation is heroic in itself. There is no way one could deny that. You might even disagree with Lula's choices as a leader, but you can't deny his willpower and perseverance as an individual...

Fortunately, there are about seventeen (noisy) people who believe Lula isn't conducting a great administration. Unanimity isn't good for democracy anyway... Everyone else is fine, thank you...

Agreed with the OP. This is just a BS movie made to glorify the government.

It's disgusting this was selected for the Academy Awards as Brazil's representative.

Se ao menos tivessem mandado Tropa de Elite 2 no lgar dessa porcaria :(

It's a shame to me, as brazilian, to see this garbage representing my country on Oscar pre-election. The "movie" is political propaganda, for a man who wants to be exalted as a god. But that is a leader of one of most corrupted partyes in modern brazilian history.

I’ve learned so much from my mistakes…I’m thinking of making a few more.

Lula and Fidel Castro are founders of the São Paulo Forum, an organization that is destroying the Latin America with a populist and communist politic scheme.
