A real organisation?POLICE RESCUE BETTER?

I am watching this in the UK and it is ok but I preferred the old POLICE RESCUE,this was fiction of course but the unit seems to exist and I liked it a lot.
But the RESCUE SPECIAL OPS people seem to be paramedics,who do the same job as the real police rescue people/
Seems like a waste of resources if both units exist and do the same job?
As for the show,it seems to lack drama for me and I don't warm to any of the characters,but maybe a fan can persuade me otherwise?
