US Release?
Does anyone know if this will be released, subtitled in the U.S? I loved the book so much and am curious about the movie.

I went to a screening of it today; Mona Achache was there, and she said that there's no planned US release :(
I am not superstitious, but I'm a little stitious.
It's playing March 27, 2010, at the French Film Festival in Richmond, VA. Also:

It just played twice at Mpls-St. Paul Intl. Film Festival, where it was listed as best film at 2010 Seattle Film Festival.
I loved it - even though I shed big tears at a few places....the 3 leads are wonderful and believable.
Always check local universities. I was lucky b/c at Coastal Carolina Uni, they had a special $1 screening one night a few months back. There had to be a professor there to introduce and describe a bit, so it could be seen as educational purposes. Talk to any French/Japanese professors, because they can request it as an educational/cultural screening.
also don't forget to order it from another region (and just reset your computer). I haven't checked other amazons, but the american one is too exspensive. Maybe another country sells some for not too bad a price...
The film is wonderful btw!
It's opening in New York City this Friday. It'll be at two Manhattan theaters, the Angelika Film Center and Lincoln Plaza Cinemas.
I loved the novel so I have high hopes for the film, even though the ad in New York Magazine says the film is only "freely inspired" by the original story.
And in your way, in this blue shade, my tears dry on their own.
I saw it in Scottsdale Thursday afternoon. It was at one location of a large chain (Harkins) and was only there for a week. Manager said it didn't do well. But I thought it was an exceptional film.
shareI just watched it at a sort of "art-house" theater north of Boston, with good English subtitles, at the very end of 2011. The theater's schedule was put together a couple months in advance, so the film must have been known to them by October. Their copy was clearly on a disk (they don't even have a 35mm "projector").
That theater has little relation to the usual release/distribution mechanisms, so the film's being there doesn't say much about whether or not it has any sort of "general" release in the U.S.
