Brick is a dumb as a post

Sheesh.

This memo was just sent to me by the woman claiming to be Jeannette_Mary, via private message. She wanted me to share it with all of you.

Her name was once "KrazyKatgrl." But she changed it, due to a mental episode. Here's the memo:

"Ok, so the results just came back from the lab, and yes, dammit, I have Herpes. I thought something was wrong, since my vajayja was constantly oozing, and there were all these sores around my ass crack. That's what I get for letting that bum use my Hershey Highway. You'd think I would've learned, after that incident at college. Apparently, I didn't, and now, I'm stuck.

This is almost as bad as the abortion I had in 1977. I didn't want to get rid of my kid, but there was no way I was gonna go to high school pregnant. They already thought I was a hore, so you can imagine what my showing up 8 months pregnant would make them think.

Oooo! I hope this cream works! I am all seriously itchy!"

Exactly, why not grab it and turn it right side up? Frustrating!

...because it wouldn't be funny if they caught it in time. It's more funny that the entire gallon just spilled out, and the payoff in the end where they just sop it up, but don't bother to clean the floor (with their shoes sticking to the floor).

Then it's all for the cheap laugh at the end, as they're walking around on a sticky floor. In other words, they're too lazy to have even washed up the mess.

It's pretty difficult to feel any sympathy for Frankie, when she lets things like that happen. The last maid was exemplary, and it looked as if Frankie had finally found some sort of salvation. Then her genius son tips over the jug, they both stand there like idiots watching it--after Frankie FINALLY had her wish fulfilled with a clean kitchen--and we're supposed to somehow find this humorous?

It would've been much funnier if both Frankie and Brick frantically ran to grab the jug, collide, and the juice goes flying all around the kitchen as they struggle to set it upright. For them just to stand there, watching...well, you gotta wonder.

BINGO !

And, we're somehow supposed to "relate" to this family ??? 

They all take a turn as the dumb on because stupid is funny. Somehow Brick's stupid episodes are more shocking because he is often shown as hyper intelligent. Acting dumb seems more natural for Axl, Sue, Frankie, Mike etc.

You're confusing intelligence with common sense. Brick has never had much common sense, but that doesn't mean he's not book smart.

If Brick is so NUMB he doesn't know to upright a full jug of orange juice as its cascading onto the nicely-cleaned floor, then it doesn't matter how "book smart" he is, he's still a moron.

Frankie had just gone through a whole speech about how she longed to have a spoon caddy and a nice clean house. Brick seemed touched by that, to the point where he offered to clean his plate. Then, a few minutes later, he knocks over the jug of orange juice and just watches it spill.

But the worst culprit was Frankie, who had absolutely no reaction to Brick ruining what that maid had obviously spent hours cleaning. She just stood there, without making any effort to set the jug upright--which, when you think about it, was also a waste of money they supposedly "don't have."

It was done for a cheap laugh at the end, that's all. By now, all the characters' personalities are set in stone, no different than the first episode--outside of the fact that Brick has obviously gotten older. The other two kids are caught in a time warp. No character development. I can just see the script notes on the first day. Axl Heck: narcissistic, stupid jock who thinks he's entitled. Sue Heck: the forever optimist who always tries to make things right. Brick Heck: Book smart but a moron, otherwise.

Yep, they're all still the same.

Brick is book-smart but lacks sufficient common sense and seems to have ADD to some extent, except when it comes to reading.

Frankie on the other hand is not book smart and isn't really street-smart, unless she's dodging bill collectors or trying to brush off someone who wants something from her. There's muddling through day-to-day, procrastinating, and being too tired from work and tending to the kids to do simple tasks......... and then there's Frankie and Mike, who have had decades to literally get their house in order. They're just plain lazy. It's why they went along with abnormally sized kitchen cabinets, a leaking dishwasher, a sink on the bottom of the cabinet after it fell down into the cabinet, a very dirty bathtub, a gaping hole in Sue's bedroom wall, brick having to use a lawn chair at the kitchen table, and a generally messy & cluttered house.

Mike is depicted as an average beer-drinking, sports-watching, meat-and-taters guy, and yet he has little to no interest, ambition, or pride in performing household repairs & maintenance. He doesn't have to clean gutters with enthusiasm but he should do these thing because it's his house and they need to be done. Simple bathroom or kitchen upgrades aren't really expensive when you do the work yourself and factor in the aggravation they can save you down the line. For a guy used to getting up and going to work day-in-day-out he didn't do anything to improve the house when he was laid off. Funny how his hoarder father had to be the one to tell him to make Axl help with repairs.
