Your favorite scene throughout all of Spartacus?

Mine would have to be Seppias death, barcas death and the scene where spartacus is speaking to varro in the pits where varro is trying to give him he mandrake root while spartacus is hallucinating.

Crixus' reaction when he finds out the reason why Agron and Seddulus were fighting

reply

What about Crixus' reaction when he sees Ashur touch Navia as he gives Crixus an evil look, oh lord the look in Crixus' eyes when he realises what's going on!!

reply

Ashur wasn't giving him an evil look, more like a passive aggressive one.

reply

The final exchange of words between Spartacus and Batiatus in Kill Them All.

Whenever Mira helps out Spartacus.

A good laugh and a long sleep are the two best cures for anything.

reply

LOL....I love the constant tension between Mira and Spartacus.

LOL....I love the constant tension between Mira and Spartacus.

Yeah I felt bad for Mira, she was so loyal to Spartacus but always knew in the back of her mind, that she would never be good enough for Spartacus which was no fault of her own. Spartacus was just so dutifully devoted to his dead wife. He never wanted to treat Mira like a slave, even though she was offered to him as a prostitute in his cell.

I had similar reactions with Neavia 1 and Crixus. These two relationships in the show really anchored B&S for me.

A good laugh and a long sleep are the two best cures for anything.

I love the exchange in this episode between Spartacus and Crixus where Crixus says in different circumstances they would be brothers. To me it sums up the emotions underlying the entire story, that deep down, we are all brothers and sisters (at least those of us that don't set ourselves up as better than others). A touching moment. e

The scene ended with Spartacus and Crixus understanding that one of them would die, with the other carrying on the life purpose of both. I wonder if this had meaning for Manu Bennett after Andy Whitfield's death.

reply

I thought of another good one: the bit when Spartacus and Crassus first encounter each other.

Crassus: (calls out his name) "Spartacus!"

Spartacus turns around and the two leaders see other for the first time. They both give each other a glance of "Ah, so you're the man I wish to see fall from this earth".

reply

The final battle between Spartacus and Crassus. Since I knew they never reportedly met on the battlefield in real life; this was a wonderful surprise. Also unlike other battles, where you know the hero will prevail; it was almost certain Spartacus would die, racking up the suspense factor.
The rousing speech given by Spartacus in the series finale is right up there also.

reply

Yeah that whole final battle between the Romans and Rebels was fantastic.

I also liked the bit when Spartacus is charging up the hill towards Crassus. He looked like a demon possessed him!

reply

I always wondered about the screeching eagle heard preceding the charge. Probably just a cool sound effect.

reply

Just to expand on that: When Crassus does his special move with the sword (what he did to kill the gladiator that trained him) to Spartacus and the camera pans up to make you wonder if he actually pulled it off......so much suspense. Then the look in Spartacus's face of like "impressive and a worthy adversary" and Crassus is all "wow, he truly is the greatest gladiator of all time"

Just.....just amazing.

Season 1 Episode 12 Glabber wants a demonstration.

Andy Whitfield as Spartacus forced to fight 6 of Glabbers men with only wooden practice swords while they had full battle armour and swords.

Note Ilithyia's classic line at the start.
Viva Bianca was excellent as Ilithyia throughout that season.

reply

That was a good one.

"I would worry less about the gods and more about the fury of a patient man."

reply

I love the scene after that as well where crixus realises what Ashur is doing and goes mad while at the same time Lucretia discoverers the affair.

reply

Hard to pick an absolute favourite but I'll try and list a few

Touching:
- Oenomaus' death touching, where he finally forgave Gannicus
- Mira's breakup with Spartacus. Too bad Spartacus could not reciprocate. Mira was awesome

Sad:
- Mira's death
- Varro's death

Disturbing
- Decimation
- Mutilation of one of the rebels (can't remember the name). His tongue was cut off and so on

Funny
- Could not help but laugh when Laeta screamed out "*beep*!" when she failed to pitch her tent.

Favourite fights
- Gannicus/Oenomaus versus Crixus/Agron. Would really have preferred if Spartacus was in the fight instead of Agron though. That woulda been more interesting. Agron is the weakest imo.
- Gannicus blindfold fight
- Spartacus versus Crassus

reply

His name was Acer. They cut off pieces of his skin as well. Don't think I watched that episode more than once.

reply

Was that the episode Empty Hands? I can't fully remember all the gruesome deaths in this show. Which is probably why I love it.

reply

There are so many, but if I have to choose a favorite...Gannicus' blindfold fight.

"I would worry less about the gods and more about the fury of a patient man."

reply

I like when Crixus gets Spartacus to jump onto the balcony and he starts the rebellion.

reply

And after he kills Vettius' champion Otho, Batiatus says that perhaps he should choose a man less prone to death when facing the mighty Gannicus.

I'm sorry the Coen brothers don't direct the porn I watch. They're hard to get ahold of, okay?

reply

The public toilet scene in Capua with Batiatus and Solonius. Just having a conversation there on the toilet in front of everybody on the street, use the community brush then go about your business.

Ok, well maybe that's not my favorite, but it cracks me up.

reply

Solonius was one of the more underrated characters on the show, IMO. I loved his rivalry with Batiatus!

reply

Varro's death. I feel season 1 was superior to the other three and could never get into the Spartacus replacement. What a sad loss.

reply

Disagree. Liam starts to make the character his own by the end of Vengeance and brought it a 100% in the final season.

reply

Never thought he phoned it in, just thought whitfield was better for the role. Liam was alright but Im not a big fan or recasting in general anyways. They really didnt really have a choice in this instance however.

reply

Yeah, it's true they didn't have a choice, but Whitfield gave Liam McIntyre his blessing and Liam did Whitfield proud, I feel. He managed to give the character his own interpretation rather than simply copy Whitfield.

reply

Andy gave the showrunner his blessing to recast the part, not Liam personally.

Season two is also my favorite but yeah, not because of Spartacus himself.

reply

True. Andy first gave the showrunners his blessing, but I heard in a video interview that he did discuss the role personally with Liam through emails.

I don't believe they met in person.

reply

Liam is not what made season 2 good though, my favorite parts of season 2 was all the roman drama and story writing

reply

When Spartacus throw's a long distance to kill a Roman and Gannicus says somthing like " We may be equal in swords but by Bleeding spear u got me".

I think it was in the first episode of the third season and let me know that even with the cast change and odd order in the seasons the show was going to stay good.
