The reason for the incest jokes

I think I understand why the writers have been using creepy, not to mention cheap incest jokes so often lately. Aside from the general drop in quality that is apparent, I think they've also put themselves into a corner with that premise. It's three whole families and nine characters (eleven with the babies) for a half-hour show. There's barely any time for supporting characters. Almost every episode includes the three families (or at least two of them) somehow intereacting within a storyline. I guess there's the Andy thing from time to time, but it's not in every episode. They obviously don't want to have someone cheat on their significant other, because it will seriously mess with the comedy element unless it's brilliantly written (the writers are hardly Larry David apprentices), which leaves very few possibilities for sex jokes unless they have some incest implications.

Now, I am not in any way defending this, it's creepy and unoriginal. But it also makes sense after 8 years. Two and a Half Men barely had one full family and it got beyond unfunny by its 8th season. The show should have ended much earlier to avoid all this awkwardness. It's too late now, so expect Manny to have mixed feelings for another relative very soon.

For me, the only joke I ever considered a real incest joke was Manny and his aunt due to actual blood relation. And I know since Lilly has known Manny as her uncle her entire life I should consider that incest-ish but since she's adopted, I don't. Plus it was only natural for her to crush on one of the boys so that was expected. As far as Manny/Hayley and Phil/Gloria, those were a given. I would have been shocked if that wasn't a running joke...You also mentioned lack of supporting characters, hopefully they give manny or Luke a Sunjay or Beth. Ya know, someone always talked about but never seen(although we finally did see Beth).

We saw Sunjay...

The writers of this show probably have really messed up relationships with their mothers It should be obvious by now

Claire wanting to help her kids have underage sex, Gloria competing for manny's attention eth one of his girlfriends, Manny's i festival feelings towards everyone, etc.

Finally, jay's first wife as a mother

The dads are much better - either too rough (jay) or too buddy buddy (Phil) but nothing strangely bad or awkward

Cam and Mitchell are the exception, but they aren't in the traditional dad/mom role so I didn't use them

Lots of 13 year old boys have had crushes on hot cousins at one point.

Manny is a character that's pretty much known at this point to fall madly any love with anything with two legs and a wet spot, despite his chances being in the negatives 10 times out of 10. Throw in the fact she wasn't amused by him at all, actually RETURNED him after kidnapping him due to her pure annoyance of him. That tiny story line shouldn't even remotely be taken seriously.

She was basically like 'get this annoying creep away from me.' Now if she had entertained the idea or something was even remotely implied then yeah your argument would hold merit..but the way it went down it was just something stupid to fill up time.

some incest implications.

The only interaction with genuine incest implications was Manny's "attraction" to his aunt, and I thought that even that was implied to be that Manny was trying to deliberately "creep out" his aunt and then, jokingly, the rest of the family.

Maybe I'm too ingenuous.
