Completely irresponsible!!

Dr. Oz has (for reasons that escape me) a loyal following that do whatever he says. Today's guest is saying that people don't NEED to take their diabetic medications ("they make you fat"). That people don't NEED to take their heart medications. That all you have to do is eat special foods and special diets.

How many of those loyal watchers are now going to stop taking their medications and put themselves at risk!!?

Oz is a complete joke. His show is a dangerous infomercial that WILL cause someone to become ill and or die.

reply

Common sense dictates people won't stop meds if their condition is serious enough. Look what Bill Clinton did! He reversed his heart disease with Dr.Esselystein's heart attack proof diet!

reply

Sadly, however, many many people will stop their meds if they like what they hear better than what their doctor is saying.

reply

Sarahz: did he (i mistakenly deleted the show from my dvr) actually say to stop taking these meds completely or did he say it with certain specific caveats?

AND did Dr. Oz not do an intervention -- you know those lists or "warnings" he pedantically posts on the side of the screen?

I'm surprised if this was a true carte blanche dictum.

edit corrects typo.

reply

No leader, Dr. Oz never said stop taking your meds!

reply

I never said Dr. Oz said it. It was his guest. Which a responsible doctor should not be promoting on a TV show.

reply

I'm sure Dr. Oz knows if he said something so stupid he could get his pants sued off!

reply

He said if you eat certain foods you should stop taking the diabetic medications because "they make you fat". He also said eating certain foods and you can stop taking many heart medications. Dr. Oz can post all the warnings he wants. If someone hears "diabetic medications make you fat"....that's all they hear.

For some that are borderline diabetic then PERHAPS a diet change is ok. But anyone on heart medications HAVE to see their doctor before doing anything.

reply

Big Pharma and meds are the real joke. All you suckers buying into their snake oil are fools. Meds cure nothing -- they treat symptoms, therefore our western medicine should be renamed "symptomology." Screw Big Pharma and their greed.

reply

Maybe but many people are going to be sick, in the hospital, or dead if they don't take their meds!

reply

^^^^This! OP Sarah and the idiot I have on ignore for a few years, megafauna whatever, are Big Pharma plants. All drugs do is kill you slowly, giving you a ton of incurable illnesses in the process that will require way more meds to treat those side effects, the causing chemicals of whose are put in on purpose in the meds. They just want you sick, mental and spending! Anyone who gives in to that is a moron when there are natural cures available. And now they want to force us to spend money we don't have to fatten up their pockets?! Please! Obamacare, which only serves to enrich Big Pharma (doctors, drug cos and insurance cos alike) needs to be outlawed and whoever initiated this bill (Romneycare in Mass. remember?) needs to be jailed along with Bush for crimes against humanity!

Am I right or are you wrong!?

reply

You are a looney! The GOP has no alternative healthcare plan in Congress! "Die in the street" is the GOP plan!

reply

Well you are obviously off your meds. Pharma plants!? You are a joke.

The fact that he had Joseph Mercola on his show and praised him should say enough about the credibility & quality of it.
Besides being an anti-vaccine nut & HIV denier that guy is also linked to a doctor called Simoncini, who lost his licence in Italy because he believes cancer is a fungus that dies if you inject it with baking soda, it goes without saying that people died in his care.

reply

it goes without saying that people died in his care.
yeah, like EVERY palliative care specialist.
 sheep.

reply

are you a doctor sarah? maybe a dietitian ?
because I am, and you absolutely can get off your meds by changing your diet. it is in fact much better for you long term to replace your meds with a healthy diet. of course it is not possible for everyone, but diabetes in many cases can be managed with life style change.

reply

I work in emergency medicine, and yes of course diabetes can be in SOME cases managed with diet and exercise changes. What you do not suggest is stopping taking your heart medications, which is what Dr. Oz does. You can consult your doctor and see if there are alternatives to take, but you do not just STOP. Or you can just stop, roll the dice and hope your blood pressure doesn't spike and give you a stroke. Diabetes meds and heart meds are different and should not be treated the same at all.

reply

is that what he recommended or is that just what you think he recommended? got a link to the episode or am i just taking your word that Dr Oz explicitly told people to stop taking their meds?

reply

That is what he and his "expert" said. No I do not have a link to the show (and no I'm not going to waste my time looking for one - you chose to comment 18 months after my comment and 3 years after the OP's). That you believe me or not is of absolutely NO concern. He has said similar things previously and will say them again. The man is especially dangerous because his followers have blinders on and will just do what he and his quack "experts" say.

reply

its funny how you put expert in "" - because certainly compared to you, dr oz is an "expert". Basically, i do not believe you. someone saying you CAN stop your meds and someone telling you to stop your meds now - are two very different things which you have muddled up.

reply

Mr. Dietitian - the ONLY person that should be advising you about your medications and how to take them or how to stop taking them is your FAMILY DOCTOR. MEDICAL DOCTOR. Not your dietitian. And definitely not some shmuck on TV.

reply

Well now I can see how you misunderstood the tv show. Practically accusing me of giving people medication advice  and unfortunately for you the schmuck on tv is a MEDICAL DOCTOR.

I love that they think that being a dietitian makes them an expert! Way too funny.

I've never pretended to be an expert or a doctor. I do work in emergency medicine, however, and far too often I have seen patients that have gone against their own family doctor's instructions and it's done them great harm. Dr. Oz is completely irresponsible and it drives me crazy. If the dietitian is happy to ignore a real doctor then personally I consider it to be evolution....they will be weeded out.

reply

No expert... no sh!t  but you'd still like to think you know more than the experts huh.
Also 911 operator doesn't count as medecine.

reply

Dr. Oz has been proven to take money from corporations to endorse them. Anyone can be an expert and still be a liar. The fact that he endorses people and lies about it shows that his advice is questionable.

https://www.sciencebasedmedicine.org/lies-fraud-conflicts-of-interest-and-bogus-science-the-real-dr-oz-effect/

In PEER reviewed scientific journals (the only ones that count) there is very little evidence that supplements do any good whatsoever. Taek for instance Green Tea extract: https://scholar.google.com/scholar?q=Green+Tea&btnG=&hl=en&as_sdt=0%2C5&as_ylo=2015&as_vis=1 You will see there is evidence that it actually does more HARM than good.

Also look up acacia berries: https://scholar.google.com/scholar?hl=en&as_sdt=0,5&as_ylo=2015&as_vis=1&q=Acai+berry

NOTHING.

Plus it's scientific fact that all bodies are different.

Here is information on that from DOCTOR'S: https://uhs.berkeley.edu/whatseatingyou/pdf/EveryBody.pdf

I'll take the advice of a doctor that knows me of someone that I see on TV or a dietician (who can't prove they are a dietician) on the internet.

reply

Reel it back in bud. Supplements as in the nutrients you get from a healthy diet - are you saying healthy foods arent healthy or just when you take nutrients in pill form they are bad for you?
I dont doubt dr oz exagerates benefits of certain products but it wouldn't hurt you to learn a little about the truth and lies between big pharma and natural health supplements. because your comments above are naive.

reply

yes? supplements do complete and enhance your diet when added to it.
so... i hope the irony in you calling out dumbass isn't lost on you. dumbass  didn't think that post all the way through did you?

reply

so, his show has been on for seven years and 1000 shows....I haven't watched in a while but I do remember when he would talk about changing the diet....he would definitley say don't stop taking your medicine without talking to your doc first......

I think some things are questionable, long island medium supposedly talking with the dead,,so phony...the diet supplements.......but he says a lot of good things about foods....

back to how long the show has been on...and your claim...if true someone would be dead by now and it would have been all over the news if they stopped taking meds bcause dr oz said so and they died.

reply

Paramedic, not a 911 call taker. I never said I know more than the experts. Perhaps reading comprehension isn't your forte. ASK doctors (you know REAL doctors not TV ones) about just stopping your heart meds and how good an idea that is.

Now off you go back to making up little menus.

reply

But you know people CAN stop their meds if they can change their diet. If the tv doc explicitly told people TO stop taking their meds, then that is wrong. But I find that highly questionable coming from you based on your comments to me, you seem like a bit of loony. Look how willing you are to misquote me when my comment is right above yours 

reply

Keep watching the magical and mystical Dr. Oz. Follow his instructions to stop taking your meds. Go for it. It's still irresponsible and I could care less the opinion of a menu maker.

Go away.

reply

What ?  if you genuinely are a paramedic that is somewhat worrying. You assume and invent information at a concerning rate. Your mental aptitude leads me believe you have neither the skills or qualifications to provide care as an emt let alone qualified paramedic.

reply

Keep going menu maker. You're embarrassing yourself.

reply

Merry christmas to you too
