Horrible movie

I really wanted to like this movie as I was a huge fan of the first one. It's supposed to be a comedy, right? I just felt sad for all the pathetic characters. I never smiled or laughed once.
A huge flop in the UK - no wonder when you're trying justify treating women like crap.

I don't think it really justified bad treatment of women, if anything it was the opposite when we see the state of the old family and everything they went through.

If the film was a flop in the UK (which I presume is its main market) then I would think a third outing is highly unlikely. I didn't think it was such a bad film, in fact I rather enjoyed it but I do think that it would have been greatly improved with the addition of one or two of George and Ella's other children. Jimi Mistry was totally wasted in what was nothing more than a cameo but I I thought the boy who played Sajit was really good.

Just walked out of the cinema (and it's been quite a while since I've done so) because I was just bored by this movie. Even though the main actors are quite good and the idea is rather interesting the story develops so slowly that I got the impression not very much was happening at all.
Also the humour seemed rather superficial and at some points even slightly racist to me. Even though the film is supposed to be a comedy I didn't feel like laughing. The way the Pakistanis are presented in the movie just doesn't feel right in a way.

I think the expectations for the film were huge because of the success and love for East is East. I was disappointed initially because I wanted East is East #2 but once the film started to cut deep into the sorrow of the family left behind and the comparisons between the lots of Mrs Khans 1 and 2, it became a good film, a moving one, and I forgot the comparisons. I didn't find this film to be about justifying treating women like crap. Quite the contrary.

Keep silent unless what you are going to say is more important than silence.

Yes, I think if you go in with the expectation of another East is East you'll be disappointed but if you go in with an open mind there's a lot to like about this film. A lot of funny moments amongst the more serious issues. Great performance from the young actor playing Sajid.

I might be the only one who felt Sajid spoiled the film. The brothers in the first film were older, so their problems were about marriage etc. But Sajid is more about teen angst which didn't interest me so much.

Also, the Pakistanis in this film are more like caricatures, whereas in East Is East they all had more character and depth.
