LOVED this film!

Saw it last weekend and adored it but then again I'm a sucker for anything Edwardian and WW1 era.

Tragic and beautiful. The romantic relationship between Vera and Roland wasn't the one that stood out for me but rather the sibling bond that Vera had with her younger brother Edward. They pulled my heartstrings more.

I just saw it and thought it was great, really well done and balanced. I didn't see the trailer before I watched it either so really didn't know what to expect other than what the synopsis said.

I was really impressed by the lead actress she was great and the cinematography was beautiful. I knew she was going to lose everyone from the first scene, she looked like someone with nothing to be happy about.

I cried for the last 30-40 min of the movie 

I too loved it and I love this era, could you give me some tips for movies set in that era to watch? I would really appreciate it, thx!

"Don't touch the watch."

If you like this one I would recommend Suite Francaise (2015) with Michelle Williams & matthias schoenaerts - it's set in the second world war (so different war period), but similar sort of beautiful cinematography and a sweeping romance.

I'm a sucker for the WW1 era also... with that being said, I thought the movie was beautiful too.

I just wrote the exact same comment about the sibling relationship! Great to see that you felt the same :)

I agree, a wonderful true story. Is it the message of peace that made it not be distributör in the US perhaps? Wonderful testament of Youth, quite simply.

I did too. The only thing I had seen before from this era was War Horse (excellent) and Downton Abbey (way over rated, but my wife liked it) I saw War Horse as a play so it is hard to compare. But this is so much better than Downton Abby.

I saw Alicia Vikander last summer in the movie "Light Between Oceans". She was wonderful there and wonderful in this movie. I did not even know about this movie until I saw it on cable. Vikander will be one of those very underated actors from Europe that we Americans will rarely see. We go to see the over-rated, glamorous American stars whose lives are so screwed-up that they think unreal movie stories are what life really is. Then our youth think that is the way their life should be. Thank you cable for the occasional movie like this one. And thank you movie theaters for occasionally giving us a good movie like "The Light Between Oceans".
