Like the director/writer/edito r gave up 1/2 way through

I'm not here to trash the movie, I actually enjoyed it despite the criticisms that can be thrown at it. I don't particularly like many actors, but for some reason I have a soft spot for both Ewan McGregor and Emily Blunt-- and maybe that's what carried the movie for me.

But looking back on it, it seems it could have been better if the pace and depth of the first half continued on through to the end. It felt to me like the end was cut up to fit a particular time quota or a test audience's opinion. The editing seemed heavy-handed and huge pieces left out-- to the point that what was left felt a bit absurd. "Oh, the fishes! They're actually alive! Well, now my life has a purpose." "Yay! Well then I'll just leave my boyfriend, all the *beep* I just packed in his car, and lets raise fishes again!"

I have a hard time believing the end was filmed like that, but maybe it was. Maybe they need to release a "Director's cut" of Salmon Fishing in the Yemen. j/k. I still the movie either way.

Given how it started out, I expected it to continue in the quirky satirical mode. It became very sentimental in the end, which surprised me. But I enjoyed it. And they were both very good. It wouldn't have worked nearly as well without their performances.

This bums me out. I'm literally half way through right now and have enjoyed it just because of it's quick wit and not being too sentimental. I can see where it's going and how easily it could become sentimental but I was hoping they would stay on course with the vibe it had up 'til now.

The ending seemed to be rushed and forced. I didn't buy it.
