Utterly, Utterly Wonderful

Not pretentious, yet sublimely inspirational. Pure art at its best.
I simply loved it.

Yes, I also think it's a wonderful movie, made so by the engrossing performances of most everyone of the actors, in major and minor roles.

Also, I've enjoyed films by Swedish director Hallström, I like the touches of whimsy, the gentleness that characterizes his execution --- there are people who dislike, hated these qualities in his films, but I on the contrary, admire those very much --- even when presenting harsh realities of life in some of those I've seen : The Cider House Rules, What's Eating Gilbert Grape, Chocolat, My Life as a Dog, and now - Salmon Fishing in the Yemen. Had to go back here, edit to add Hachi: A Dog's Tale, a real tearjerker of a movie, based from the original Japanese film Hachikô Monogatari.

Kristin Thomas Scott is brilliant as the pushy Press Officer of the British PM here in Salmon Fishing..., I only knew her as an excellent actress in dramas, but she's remarkable in her offbeat role in this movie. Actually, she's the one who said the f-word early in the movie and even insulted someone as a "moronic buffoon".

I hope the dvd comes here in my place soon, I definitely will have a copy of my own so I can watch it again whenever I have time on my hands.

The film is exquisitely shot. The lighting was so beautiful of the scenery, the fish beneath water and people's faces were luminous. The effect of the lighting alone was enough to lift my spirits.

I give my respect to those who have earned it; to everyone else, I'm civil.
