Why not give 50 million pounds to starving children in India?

Or any other worthy cause. Its an unimaginable sum of money.

I know it's just a comedy but is just a rich man's indulgence made to look important.

I do see your point, but the sheikh was trying to help his people by bringing in water and fish to his land, and he chose to do it the way that he felt passionate about.

Why not sell your computer and send the money to charity?
Why buy flowers and shrubs for your garden instead of growing food?
Why buy artwork?
Why pay to watch films?
Why not sell your car and give the money to charity?
Why not do without a holiday?

It's not only the very rich who are selfish twats!

This was how some of the Brits saw it early in the film, but the Sheik was quite specific in wanting to diversify economically in his country and use the money and the dam to try to create new agricultural and tourism industries. It's also one of the reasons Fred and Harriet decided to stay.🐭

Don't complain about what rich people do with their money; think about what you're doing with yours. And don't offend the people of India. They're not for you to capriciously point out as model poor people who need charity.
