excellent film. the estevez's magnum opus

i know it sounds cheesy but i walked away from this movie just thinking differently about life, if that is what emilio was trying to do, he succeeded

I agree, I felt the same way. that line … argh, I just saw the movie and I cannot remember it, but you do not do something with your life you live it … somehow we have all forgotten that in the USA and not only that but we all seem to resent other people having a life.

I really was not expect a lot from this movie, and I don't know how it did it, but I was sucked in pretty quick and really enjoyed it.

The line is, "You don't choose a life; you live one."

I was sucked in right away, as well, and loved every minute of it. I cried throughout and most especially during the Pilgrim's mass scene. When Tom looks up and sees his son helping pull the ropes on the giant censor, I lost it. Wept like a lost child, I did.

Not cheesy at all. Besides, you haven't lived until you've had fresh goat cheese. ;) I just watched this film on Netflix and it's right up there in my all-time favorite film list, right next to "The War at Home." Emilio Estevez is so underrated as a writer and filmmaker. It's a sin that he doesn't get more recognition.

Interesting choice of words considering the Catholic slant to this movie. I agree, the movie is very under-rated, it was probably my favorite or one of them last year when I also saw it on NetFlix.
