IS JACK BASED IN JACK HITT, THE CO-AUTHOUR OF THE SCRIPT?

Is the character Jack, the irish writer a homage to Jack Hitt, the author of the book "Off The Road" in which the movie is based? Right now I´m reading the book and can find a lot of references in the movie.
