Self-Flagellation scene

I wonder if the self-flagellation monks were actually on the camino and EE worked it into the movie. It seems unlikely but amazing if it had happened that way. It is very hard to watch people do that to themselves for their religious beliefs. I once saw a guy, on the side of the highway, carrying a cross. Even though it did have wheels at the bottom of the cross, it was quite something to witness that.

My guess would be he happened across the ceremony and worked it in. Or maybe he knew when it was going to transpire and had his crew at the ready? But yea, definitely difficult to witness.
