It's NOT Jap national flag.
It's most famous as Jap imperial military flag in WW2
If you travel one of the Asian countries that were suffered by Jap during WW2.
DO NOT wear it.
You might get lynched,
To them its as much insulting as German Nazi Swastika flag to Jews.

I believe it was a stylized scallop. Or I totally missed what you are referring to.

I also noticed that...
But I'm not sure if that's offensive to others.. still I would not prefer having patched on bags.
